Poor Crosby is going to miss the guy who sang his anthem :(

Ronnie James was pretty awesome, though. My favorite song is Rainbow In The Dark.

RIP

For being such a diminutive little dude, had one hell of a voice. RIP.

He is now a rainbow in the dark...

Perhaps he will get the "devil horns" to catch on where ever he went just like he did for metal music.

One of THE great voices in rock. This is the passing of a legend. I was fortunate enough to catch him live a couple of times, and the voice was absolutely larger than life. I have Rainbow's On Stage playing in tribute. Might even dig out Live Evil!

Some of the younger folks who really don't know Dio-- One of the first concerts I ever went too.... I think 80. We had front row in 84 or 85 at the Rosemont but they canceled the show.

He is going to be missed.

I can't count the number of times his songs like, "Walk away" and "Don't Talk to Strangers" helped me get over just being dumped in my late teens.

Every album he did had at least 1-3 songs on it with the subject of "Evil woman, look out tonight" and singing along with him was very cathartic in those situations.

What a bummer, I loved that guys voice. I'm glad I got to see him live a few years back at AllState arena.

I believe he was trained at Julliard (sp?) as an opera singer. He could really belt em out for such a small dude.

Looks like our old friends at the Westboro Baptist Church are at it again. According to their website, they plan to picket Ronnie's public memorial service May 30.

Didn't he accept Christ later in his life?

He may have. I don't know. You may be thinking of Alice Cooper. Regardless, the memorial is an opportunity for them to get some news coverage. Judging by their past activities, you'd think protesting hand gestures and lyrics based on sorcery would be low on the priority list!

From what I remember, wasn't throwing up the "horns" initially a way to ward off evil spirits?

Aye. He said he got it from his grandmother, or maybe mother, and when the horns were thrown up, palm facing another person or people, you were protecting yourself and those people from the "evil eye".

Tis how I always understand it myself.

I heard that Niemi has been doing that each time the puck is shot at him.

I wouldn't worry too much. If Dio goes to hell (he might; the parties are better there), he can take it up with all of the prostesters when they themselves check into the brimstone gates.

And yes, it's a well-known metaphysical fact that ALL religious extremests get eternal damnation.
