Okay, I was looking at Rose's production Month by month and how people said he was just out of his mind in November and then came back down to earth.

Then When I looked at it. It is partly true. He was One of the BEST Rookie ever to play first month. Then December wasn't too bad but January and February were down somewhat.

But, Since March 1st, he has been AWESOME AGAIN. Just like His November but people are not noticing.

His April is very ALL-STAR Level.

April Averages (rounded to): 19.2ppg 4rpg 7.5apg 1.3spg 1bpg 54%fg.

:eek:hmy:

His April Month just BLOWS his November out of water and we though November was just OUTSTANDING - out of his mind month.

Anyways, my question is that do you think He will go from Good to Great in the playoffs?

Will he separate himself from the borderline all-star to All-star/superstar status and WOW everyone???

This Rose's season reminds me so much of Wade's rookie season or Lebron's 2nd season (where they carried their team to the playoffs) and how they were even better in the playoffs.

What do you think?

I think your right on with this. I too went back and compaired Rose to Wade's 1st year and i came to some of the same conclusions. I think rose will be a perennial all-star. My only question is will it start next season or his 3rd season.

First, remember April is basically a half month, so small sample size.

If he is able to step it up in the playoffs, then watch out NBA next year. He's got about the worst matchup possible for him. If he had to go against Rafer Alston or Mo Williams then I'd feel a lot better about him stepping it up.

The flip side to the tough matchup is that if he's successful it means a heck of a lot more than it would otherwise.

I think Rondo will outplay him in the series though.

Rondo is THE one PG in the league who could shut Rose down or make him significantly less efficient, he's as quick as him, has a leer jet wingspan and keeps everything in front of him. I would not be surprised to see Rose have a somewhat disappointing post season. However, if Derrick does dominate this match-up and makes Rondo look like a fool, then the league should watch out next year

I maybe wrong (and I hope I am if you're right) but I believe that if rondo does out play him we're in trouble. Esp if john (yes, we're on a first name basis now) isnt clost to 100%

rose hasn't played great against boston, but he can be a great decoy, and he think he's learned to take care of the ball better than the last time the bulls played, where they won too.

Rose is a lock to a multiple-time All-star without question, but the jury is still out on whether he can be great.

Most great players don't take more than one season in the NBA to show signs of being great. There are good players, and all-star level players that develop slower and take about their third or fourth season for them to come into the season, but great players usually show it in their second.

Rose has shown that he can handle the pressure of being a number one pick, a home-town player, and playing the toughest position on the court and still exceeding everyone expectations, but there is still quite a leap in his game that needs to be made for him to be considered great.

This playoff series, no matter who wins can be a huge platform for Rose to show his talent to the entire world. I expect one or two bad games from him, but if he can have one or two really great games, it could be a sign of things to come in the future.

looking at the numbers for the first 3 years for deron williams, chris paul, and rajon rondo, they all had relatively close numbers to what derrick rose is putting out right now. its in their 3rd year where things started blowing up for these guys.

rose has showed that "drive" over the past month or so in the 4th quarter. it was on display in their last game in detroit. i looked at the play by play for the 4th quarter, and derrick rose had either scored or assisted on every point until very late in the 4th, maybe even up until bg's final layup. its looking like his desire to win is very strong — combine that with his physical gifts, in a few years cp3 and d-will are gna have a 3rd wheel.

I agree, we need Rose to beat Rondo otherwise the series is over.

Rose has definitely shown signs of being great already. He may not be great yet, but he's shown signs of it already. We'll see if he can make the next leap. I agree that if he's going to be a superstar we should see clear signs of it next year though.

This year he was a rookie. And he was occasionally great. So yes, he will be top 10 in the league in two years. He jsut doesn't have and unfixable weaknesses, and he clearly has the ability to work and get better at things, as shown by his midrange jumper and his improvement finishing with his left hand.

I agree. If we were playing pickup with NBA players and my opponent picked Derrick Rose my pick as the best guy to stop him in the league would be Rondo. That is why they will probably lose it in the end. I think Rose will outplay Rondo overall in the series but I just don't think it will be as big of an advantage (like I think DThonus said) as he would've had against Alston or Mo Williams. Lastly I agree with everyone who thinks if Rose dominates the matchup it will propel him to one of the premiere players in the League already.

Oh I just listened to DThonus' last episode and he agrees that Rondo is the best in the league to guard Rose, nice.

Re:Rose Prediction: Will Rose go from Good to Grea

I think there is a large chance Rondo will outplay him.

Im not saying that Rondo is the better player now, and im certainly NOT saying that Rajon's gonna be better in a couple of years time.

But a couple of years regular NBA season experience would be useful on its own, but last year Rondo got the experience of 2 game 7s, the detroit pistons, and then the experience of 6 games NBA finals. Not to mention any possible added pressure of it being a lakers-celtics final, or the couple of games that involved a huge comeback either way.

Plus, aside from the experience thing, I think Rondo is an under-rated point guard. For being still quite young, hes got good D and court vision, and playin/training with the "big 3" has to help.

Remember, when Boston was demolishing their roster in the do-or-die for Allen and Garnett, they made a point in hanging on to him, so presumably they saw potential in him to play with tallent like Pierce etc.

Anyways, I didnt mean to turn this into a Rajon-love-fest, I'm just making the point tha if Rose gets out-played by Rondo, lets not all think that its the end of the world, and that Rose is nothing special. Rose is going to learn and improve with the experience, regardless of how it seems to turns out just now.
And if Rose DOES win the match, then thats just extra reason to be hopeful about our future!

Re:Rose Prediction: Will Rose go from Good to Grea

Hahahaaa - I TOLD YOU SO.

I knew this would happen and this is why I had this new thread up before the series started.

Hey Doug, remember when you and me went to the Celtics game a month+ ago??? Remember you told me how you didn't like Rose vs Rondo matchup and how Rondo would do a very good job slowing down/stopping Rose and Rose would have a difficult time?

Then I said, No Doug. Rose is just that good, if he is aggressive I don't see Rondo stopping Rose as Better offense can beat good defense.

Man, was I right??? or I was right all along?

This is why you rarely to NEVER see a TRUE Lebron/Wade/Kobe/Jordan stopper in the NBA. Those are better offensive players and no matter how good those other so called good/great defenders are, those players will still get theirs.

That is what I was saying Doug and I was right. I know Rose has all those abilities (as he is not a jump shooter like Gordon/Allen/etc) that if they can't shoot well from outsdie, they will struggle but Rose is like those that is already a 47# shootr and can get to the hoop at will and he made Rondo look like a "stuck to the Ground" chair. I am watching highlights over and over and it seemed like Rondo wasn't even there - that's how fast and sick Rose was with his quickness/great dribbling/crossover dribbling skills.

If Rose comes out aggressive like this - no matter what Celtics or other teams try and prepare to stop him, he will get his NO MATTER WHAT.

Also I saw your Rose going to free throw line thread, you know why he got those calls? He was aggressive right from the beginning and when you are right from the get go, Refs do give them the benefit of the doubt.

Anyways, I just hope that it continues and others step up (Hinrich/Salmons/Miller particularly).

I wanna state I'm not into this "oh and this was his FIRST playoff game" thing. It's really nice to get a record, but if Rose had an average game and would then explode in game 2 would it mean anything less? What's the record for points in a second playoff game by a rookie? Nobody cares, right?
