The Bulls have some news to announce later today and no doubt it's what we've all been expecting since last October -- Derrick Rose will be named NBA rookie of the year.

Rose averaged 16.8 points, 6.3 assists and 3.9 rebounds this season. Just as impressive were his elevated shooting percentage (.475) and low turnover rate (2.5 per game).

He also tied the NBA record for most points by a rookie in his playoff debut by scoring 36 against Boston on Saturday, which matched Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

It would have been pretty comical if someone else won rookie of the year after Rose's playoff debut. The new conference is at 2 p.m. at the Renaissance North Shore.

Success! I'm really glad to read that. Let's just hope that we don't trade him away now that he's gotten Rookie of the Year honors... (Elton Brand reference for those that didn't catch that one)

There was a time in early march after Rose was in a 1 month funk where you could argue whether he deserved ROY, but he turned it on big time during the most critical moments when it counted most and grabbed the award and made sure it was a no contest.

I don't see how you could vote in any other direction right now. I'm sure it won't be unanimous, because there's always some jackass out there who uses his vote to make some kind of statement instead of making the obvious choice, but they should revoke the votes of said jackasses.

I'm waiting for David Aldridge to go on TV and say the press conference is for John Paxson to announce he is stepping down because of health problems.

Hopefully Rose wins unanimously. That little stretch run to the season pretty much secured the award for Rose, and he should win it outright, but as you said, he won't. I think we already saw some of the ESPN guys who have votes say that they would be voting for Lopez.

Its going to be very interesting to see how the voting will come out but I do believe that it seems first impressions still go a long way in the voters minds.

The first month it was all Rose/Mayo. But it was in such a fashion and it was so dominant that it burned the thought of them in everyones mind to last a full season.

So much so that basically Rose and Mayo would have to basically forget how to play basketball for them not to be in the runnings.

I'm very happy. He deserves it. Not that we don't have talent on this team, but he carried us in many games, and even his poor games he usually found some way to be effective with his passing

I didnt doubt much he would win, though I think others may have got some votes, will be interesting to see the vote tally if ever released.

Hopefully he can bring the trophy and show it to the crowd in Game 3, get the crowd amped up even more than they already will be and see Rose take over and bring home a win again.

This years class has alot of good talent i feel, but at the end of the day Rose was better & within the next few years he will be head & shoulders above anyone in this class. If he can develop his 3pt shot more and learn to become a good defender its going to be scary & i cant wait to watch it all happen. Haven't felt his special about the Bulls since Jordan & Pippen years! (Even though the Skiles years were good for most part)

He deserved it. I didn't see anyone else winning it.

The guy who is presenting the trophy looks like an Indian guy.

Congrats to Rose - he totally deserved it.

On a side note, who the hell gave a 2nd best rookie vote to Robin freaking Lopez???

Rose won 111 of the 120 1st place votes.

O.J Mayo received 5 first votes, and Brooke had 2. If anything it should have been the other way around in my opinion. Brooke had a more impressive rookie season than O.J. Sure, O.J had the better start, but consistently throughout the season Brooke has been playing well, and in the last stretch he was playing really great.

Well deserved. Sometimes the voters can be a bit slow, but this was a no-brainer.

Can't wait to see the UC go crazy when they do the presentation tomorrow before the game.

Rose won this by far, not even close. Even though the Bulls have talent it was obvious all year the level of effectiveness on the offensive end dropped when he was out. He led this team. I would agree with Brooke Lopez coming in second and I would have voted Westbrook third. Mayo was overrated in the beginning of the year and was just terrible the last half. He almost did forget how to play. Plus Memphis is stupid because they should have been running their offense through their 20 ppg scorer, Rudy *** easily their best player.

I thought Hollinger made a reasonable case for Lopez without being a "jackass". If anything I'd argue the effect is the other way: everyone "knows" Rose will win rookie of the year, so people are more inclined to vote with the pack. I really don't think Rose was a 111-2 clear cut choice over Lopez if votes were made in a vacuum.

Just ordered my Derrick Rose ROY T-shirt.

As for the press conference was it me or was Vinny talking for a good 20 minutes. I just wanted to tell Vinny "see Paxson hair, that's what you will look like soon". As for Rose listening to him is like listening to a microwave. He so boring but he is a great kid. I loved how he talked about Hunter and Hinrich as well as talking about that comeback win against the Clippers and BGs 4 pt play.

To all you Bulls fans who wanted Beasley :p

To Mike D'antoni :p
