I know all these roster moves moves have been mentioned in various threads, but they may have been lost and too confusing....
Roster Moves
Roster Moves
Over the last week or so, the Cubs have been making roster moves each and every day. It at least seems that way and more roster moves will be on the way.
*Marlon Byrd was placed on the 15 day DL: After being nailed in the face on Saturday in Boston, the Cubs placed OF Marlon Byrd on the 15 day DL with a swollen eye and facial fractures. Byrd said “he’s hopeful to return by season’s end.”
*Re-called pitcher Justin Berg: Justin Berg was re-called from Triple A Iowa. As the corresponding move in placing Byrd on the DL.
*Pitcher Matt Garza was placed on the DL: The Cubs placed pitcher Matt Garza on the 15 day DL with a bruise on his right arm. Retroactive to May 17th. Garza tried to plea his case to stay off the DL but was out numbered. This move was more for precautionary reasons. It looks he will just be on the DL for the max.
*Called OF Luis Montanez from Triple A: In the corresponding move to placing Matt Garza on the DL., the Cubs called up OF Luis Montanez. For the most part, Montanez will be taking Byrd’s spot on the roster. To add Montanez to the 40-man roster, the Cubs moved pitcher Brian Schlitter from the 15 day DL to the 60 day DL.
*Randy Wells returning Saturday: The Cubs are said to be activating pitcher Randy Wells from the DL on Saturday. Wells will take the spot of Matt Garza. The Cubs will have to send a player down in activating Wells. If I had to guess, either pitcher Justin Berg or Scott Maine will be sent down to Triple A.
*Geovany Soto returning…weekend?: Catcher Geovany Soto is also set to return and could be this weekend. He’s expected to rehab in the coming days. If all goes good, he should return very soon. The Cubs will also have to make a move in activating Soto from the DL. I have to say, Welington Castillo will be sent down.
We are only a quarter through the season and all these moves have occurred. With many more to come…
