Some Republican Senators are being ripped for trying to block health benefits for the police, fire, and other volunteers who worked at ground zero. All the material from the destroyed towers has caused significant problems for those who worked at ground zero. This legislation covers 11 conditions caused by the particles including cancer and breathing issues. Republicans say the 6.4 billion dollar price tag is too high. What a joke these are American heroes, we can't pay for their health problems? This just makes me so mad.

So we will drop over a trillion to prop up a broken economy but won't spend less than 10 billion to pay the heroes of 9/11......really? I mean really?

This is one of those situations where the left wing media spins the story out of context and suddenly it's being believed as Republicans against 9/11 responders. That's not the case. Everyone recognizes these guys/gals were herores but there are problems with this bill. I'm against the bill and here's why.

1) Controls are lacking in the bill for oversight. The FEMA payouts on Katrina were wrought with millions being paid out fraudulently. FEMA had $2000 debit cards they gave Katrina 'victims' - many of which just milked the system. Some spent the money on vacations, champagne, and even strip clubs. Another 350 of these cards then went 'missing' - at $2k a piece you do the math. The 9/11 responder bill was being set up as another slush fund with the same lack of controls. Bottom line - more wasteful spending.

2) The 9/11 responders bill could be used by other groups to seek their own bailout for personal suffering (i.e. slavery reparations, japanese american war camp survivors, etc). This could set a bad precedent.

3) This is yet another example of a lame duck Congress trying to ram through legislation without oversight and debate prior to them losing power on 1/5.

But these same Republicans have no problem with the giant tax cuts for the wealthy. If they really cared about the deficit and losing money they wouldn't have supported that. As for this if we give to them we have to give it to everyone crap. How many 9/11 attacks have happened? This was a very unique event. The fact that these buildings were pulverized made material extremely dangerous, and the government said it was safe. This was a one time event. Why would we not take care of them? Would we abandon soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan?

I dont have a problem with LIVING japanese war camp survivors getting a reparation. Just like I would have had no problem with LIVING former slaves getting reparations. I dont think their children/grand children should.

lets lock you up in a concentration camp for 4 years and then let you out with nothing but a "my bad". On top of that the 442nd Nisei Regimental Combat Team is the most decorated regiment in the history of the US armed forces.

So not only did we lock them up but while their families sat in concetration camps their sons fought for their jailors. So no, i completely agree with giving every survivor of that something.

That's good rhetoric until you're asked as a taxpayer to cough up the dough to pay for it.

You're missing the point. We are not against the 9/11 responders. They were heroes. Why not hold though until you can put in a program that ensures they are the ones helped and filters out the scam artists that will milk and pilfer funds from the system.

As for the tax cuts, you're only describing half the story. Yes the Paris Hilton's and Warren Buffet's get a tax break and they don't need it. But, what about all those small business owners making 250,000 after all deductions? They get hit as well. This is a job killing policy. There's a good saying Reagan used and I like it --> "A poor person never hired anyone".

Yeah why should we give them Japanese Americans reparations? Just like every Muslim, every one of 'em evil, you just know those little Japanese kids in the (let's call them what they were) concentration camps were evil and their parents deserved having all their real and private property confiscated and never returned to them.

Im a tax payer. Not my fault your sense of justice is as pale as your skin. With all your love of Jesus you dont act one bit like him, all you care about is your money, Judas. I am an atheist and more christ-like than you. If I got asked to pay more taxes for that I would do it in a heart beat for the notion that wouldnt happen to anyone else and the same thing wouldnt happen to me.

You are really a piece of work. Seriously, you hail this figure who was according the gospels the biggest bleeding heart liberal to walk the earth, yet do the exact opposite of his teachings.
