Pretty comprehensive though. Good info. He should've used the Baseball-Reference auto-linker though.

Seems like the Cubs have more than a few guys that other teams might take a flyer on. Jay Jackson while terrible for most of the year last year seems like a guy teams would take and hide as the 12th guy in the pen. Flaherty and Smith might also get taken as bench guys. I think I am more interested in who the Cubs lose than who they might get to be honest.

I'm the same way, but I think they might also be gambling that some of their guys stay Cubs.

What should the Cubs be looking for in this draft, and have any contributors came from this?

Patton :troll:

I hated him... because had to stay on the roaster when he still should have been in Low-A ball.

Expecting Flahert, Rhee, and/or J. Jackson to be taken.

Rhee I think is a bit of a reach, but crazier things have happened. I thought I read that his velocity returned last season (could be confusing him with someone else though at this point), and I would be disappointed to lose him. However, given the numbers on the 40 man roster I am okay with them exposing him.

Jackson and Flaherty seem like the most likely to be taken since they are the closest to being ready.

To answer your question fisch, the big names that have come out of the rule 5 draft is Johan Santana and Josh Hamilton. The Cubs haven't had much luck with the rule 5 draft in recent years with the only two guys they've taken in the past 10 years as far as I can recall was David Patton and Scott Chiasson (though really the Cubs traded Hinske instead of keeping him on the roster).

Mike Parisi was another. And the Cubs were the team that took Hamilton in the Rule V actually.

I was aware of that Wrigley but I didn't want to get into that whole the Cubs traded Josh Hamilton thing because it is a stupid argument.

I thought that was another guy, but couldn't remember. Again though the Cubs have in the past taken relievers in the rule 5 draft, but that was a different FO than what we have today.

I think Cubs get no one and the compensation packages are related to the Rule V draft.

Any of the Cub players could go, if teams want to take a chance on them.
