Rules of the Trade |

I've been thinking about what players the Blackhawks might be interested in over the last couple of weeks. I encourage anyone to comment on what Defenseman they would trade for and what they would give up to get that player. Is it one of my top 5, one of the guys who just missed the cut, or someone completely out there?

Looking forward to seeing some responses...

Not a bad list...

Matt Carle is someone ive heard some bloggers mention and he would be interesting from Philly, but seeing as they will be a contender, they will be reluctant to trade him im guessing

Yea, really, really unlikely that the Flyers trade Matt Carle to anyone.

Kinda thinking unlikely Beauchemin will be tough to nab, also.

I like Beauchemin, but if I imagine we are talking about a rental for the playoffs -maybe Souray? Dunno what he is like off ice, as in if he is a problem. I know he is 35, and don't know about his mobility - in theory you could also fit a couple of other guys at the same time.

I've always thought a great pickup would be Drew Doughty, the likelyhood of that happening unfortunately is zero to none. We don't really have any trade bait so it looks like our only option for a D-man is FA.

I think Beauchemin will be traded if the Ducks are in the same position come trade deadline. Why would they risk losing Beauchemin for nothing? Teams lose guys every year for nothing that they thought they would sign but I get the feeling a guy like Beauchemin would be a nice rental for a couple of teams.

My opinion on Souray...

Positives: He has a bomb of a shot, would help the powerplay, throws his body around, is a UFA, isn't afraid to drop the gloves.

Negatives: Is slow and is prone to mistakes.

While there are more positives than negatives, I just don't know if Souray is the type of player the Blackhawks need. I suppose he could help in the end just because he would probably play top 4 and that would leave Hjalmarsson to slide down to the #5 spot. Doesn't fix the PK though.

Definitely an interesting name though, thanks for bringing him up.

If you are talking Drew Doughty, you better be prepared to move Leddy, Sharp, + for him. The Kings signed him long term for a reason and he has a cap hit of $7Mil.

In my opinion, one of the most underrated puck movers out there and at the cap hit of $4.1Mil for one more year - I love Streit as well. I would not be surprised at all if the Isles continue to struggle this year (despite their recent winning ways) that they actually LISTEN about Streit. It would have to be an overpayment and the Isles would probably want guys like Leddy, Lalonde/Olsen, Stalberg, Frolik, and other top end prospects - not all of those guys but they would have to be on the table in some way (even though the Blackhawks seem to be extremely high on Leddy - who has 1 more year after this one of his ELC)

I figured his speed might be something like that -otoh though, I think I read his contract is like 1.6 or 1.7 mil per season; so there'd still be room for other moves.

It doesn't fix the PK, however, what is it with the PK -as that can also be a forward issue as well. So are there any defensive speacialist type forwards out there?

I'm figuring those would be acquirable for almost nothing (a 4th line guy with a limited role to be sure).

I'd also still like Prospal (contract amount) for a rental if possible. Actually I am looking at a few low cost rentals- but I suppose too, it doesn't have to be that way -a bigger splash can be afforded this season... so maybe I am thinking too small.
