If you haven't seen them, there's two similar documentaries out now one on the Fab Five (on ESPN) and the other on Tarkanian's Running Rebels (HBO). Personally, I was a big fan of the Runnin' Rebs and I didn't think the Fab Five was all that good. I can say the same about the two documentaries.

The "Fab Five" was too long and seemed a bit one-sided. The Runnin' Rebs doc was a broader view of that time at UNLV. I think both did a good job of raising questions over the NCAA's rules and enforcement; and the "FF" did a good job of showing how much money a popular team can make for its university. But the UNLV show was more touching in that it showed how much the people of Nevada loved that team, and how sad they were to see it taken away (for better or worse).

Also, if you find this post boring then I offer this:

All about the Fab Five for me. I loved the Fab Five, but UNLV was pretty awesome, but I think the Fab 5 would have beaten them.

It would have been super close though those were amazing teams.

Thanks for the heads up on the UNLV doc, I will have to find that. I have the FF recorded yet to watch.

Also I voted for tits.

You can't go wrong with tits. But yes, watch the UNLV doc. I think it had more meat to it. I'm not a fan of the NCAA and it's system and I really appreciated how Tark fought them (and won in my opinion). I don't care whether either program was "clean," they were very entertaining and I think they did far more to help college basketball than to hurt it. And I think, especially in the case of the UNLV, the allegations (some of which were leaked by very unlikely sources) really just hurt the UNLV fans.

UNLV. They at least won something. I was too young to remember them, but during the 90's watching Michael Jordan got me hooked on NBA and College basketball documentaries so I've watched a ton on both.

Also, the Fab 5 didn't start the baggy short trend, the Flyin' Illini did a few years before them.

Stephen Bardo, Kendall Gill say Flyin' Illini, not Jalen Rose's Fab Five, started baggy shorts trend - ESPN Chicago

"I do think it's revisionist history because they did not start the baggy shorts [trend], we did," Bardo said Monday night on "Chicago's GameNight" with Jeff Dickerson and Jonathan Hood. "The Flyin' Illini did. That was Kendall Gill that started that, that wasn't Jalen Rose. So I know he took credit for that, but I have to remind people that we had baggy shorts before they came on the scene."

Gill backed his former Illini teammate's claim.

"Yeah, he's telling the absolute truth," Gill said later on the show. "And I can tell you they probably won't admit [it], but Juwan [Howard] and Chris Webber would come up to us, myself, Nick Anderson, Steve Bardo, when they would see us when they got into the league and they would say, 'You know what? We wore our shorts long because you guys did it, the Flyin' Illini.' They bit off of us. They did."

UNLV was a billion times better than the Fab Five....they were undefeated when they lost to duke and curbstomped duke in 1990...michigan never got close to anything like that
