I'm guessing you're not very familiar with divorces. This isn't about being hard up for money. He probably wants to scrub the marriage from his life while selling off the shit they couldn't agree upon when dividing assets. Crowe has never struck me as the sentimental type anyways. I bet he won't miss any of that shit.

Why'd he have that movie memorabilia if he isn't the sentimental type?

If he was the sentimental type he could have easily picked out any of that shit, put a stupid number on it and paid his ex-wife the money for it. He could have even put a stupid high reserve on it and agreed to match the highest bid so she didn't give him shit about it bringing more at auction. In the end, still don't think he was particularly attached to anything. He seems like one of the few actors that could lose everything and still be the same person. Real down to earth kinda guy.

I read an interview where he said he really didn't want to let a lot of that stuff go.

I can only imagine many things he owned he was forced into selling them to then split the money with his ex. Bitches man. Ruthless.

John Oliver bought a bunch of this stuff and sent it to a Blockbuster in Alaska.
