What the actual ****?

Poles has done NOTHING to earn an extension, and he has 2 years remaining on his current contract, where is the logic?

Is there a threat that someone is going to poach away a GM with a 15-36 record?

I was hoping he would get shit-canned, oh well.

Whats the logic behind not extending him?

Not like if the bears suck both him and Johnson arent fired anyways in 2-3 years.

Last thing you want is an underwhelming 2025 and poles fucking making desperate moves in 2026 to save his job

None of that makes any sense, he hasn't earned an extension, far from it. If the team sucks again in 2025 he has to be fired and the only moves he makes in 2026 is as an assistant GM somewhere else.

But I guess because of your concern over what he may do in 2026, an extension makes sense now. Brilliant.

The logic is if you extend him, he'll be a better GM? If that's the case, then why not give Poles a lifetime contract? That worked with Ted Phillips, no?

It seems like every move Poles has made up to this point has been a desperate move to save his job....will you be able to tell the difference after another 5-12 season?

With the contract they have signed Johnson to I can’t believe he would be gone in 2-3 years and they pay him that much dead money. Maybe with 1 year remaining.

Get used to the Poles/Johnson combo regardless on success, this is likely it for quite a while. Hopefully this is a good thing, McCrapsky is pushing all of his chips in on this one.

Why does anyone care?.. it’s not your money. Plus when’s the last time a Bears GM made it through his entire contract? Or any GM for that matter besides Ozzie Newsome?

lol... as soon as they didn't fire Poles at the end of the season anyone with half a brane knew that Poles was going to get an extension to align him with the newly hired coach.

Do people not think things through anymore?
The Bears usually don't do that, though.

The only thing I can think of is, they're actually doing this thing right for the first time in a very long time. Yes Poles sucks, not happy with him as GM. You just went all in on BJ so I see the logic in extending the guy who hired him. In normal organizations, this would have been done a very long time ago. But there is no way George is going to fire BJ if he sucks and be on the hook for $13M per year. He is here good or bad. I absolutely see the business logic to get their contracts aligned, but I do agree they should have fired him last year along with Fluser.

What difference does it make? The Bears haven't had a good GM since Jim Finks....sure, Vainisi and Tobin both had good records but they were both playing the hand Finks dealt them. Some will say Angelo was a winner.....you mean the GM who only hit a home run with a first round pick one time in 11 years? He did have a winning record but it could have been much, much more even if he just hit .500 in the first round.

Besides, with what they're paying BJ....they wouldn't extend Poles without his blessing.

Can Poles find some talent in the mid and bottom rounds of the draft? Good GMs do and its a boon for the team. This, and free agent signings are the real test of a GM, along, of course, with hiring a good head coach.

I think this is really underselling how bad Poles has been. Angelo basically won as many games in his first season as Poles has won in three. Nearly all of Poles' moves have been disasters up to this point.

Um, the people that hired him and sign his paychecks think he’s earned an extension. Everyone else’s opinion means exactly nothing

But dumb bears fans are mad he's a bad GM. They dont look at the track record of other GM's in the nfl tho!

So far he's batting 100% on all his 1st and second round picks, and some may develop into very good or star players eventually. But he's awful because he didnt hit on a random 4th round pick or traded for chase claypool when everyone knew we were desperate for an answer at WR to properly judge justin.

Poles should have maybe been fired for keeping flus around, but the bears effed him in the first place by basically deciding who the options were for HC before he was even hired.

Meanwhile his aGM keeps getting GM interviews but the bears front office is terrible. So terrible they netted the best young coaching prospect in recent years.

Such a stupid measure to use, his tanking is the reason we got ben johnson and caleb williams and the bears may potentially be a superbowl contender one day.

I'm sure the same idiots who blame him for the record would be crying if the bears were constantly mediocre with zero upside like the Bulls

Outside of Amon Ra who has the lions GM really found in those rounds? Serious Question

Anything around round 4 and up is usually just having a shamrock up your ass, most of those guys dont see a second NFL contract. I agree he needs to do better in rounds 3, as the hit rate in that round is still pretty solid.

My main issue with poles is flus and not firing him last offseason, but it netted us ben johnson anyways. This completely stunted player development of all the young guys he drafted by having a terrible coaching staff.
