The Stat was negative plays by the offense. The Bears I believe were ranked 5th worst in the league with 160+ NEGATIVE plays by the offense. DO the math...it's 10 plays a game going backwards. I'm just curious but my gut tells me a majority of these plays came on 2nd down. It is fact that for years under Lovie the offense would continually shoot itself in the foot. Wether it is a classic Cutler pick in the redzone after the defense takes the ball away, they did so 4 times in the first half, or Omifail, Carrimi, Williams, JWebb, or any other so called lineman giving up a sack Trestman and Cutty have to cut this number of negative plays in half. Period.

I don't want to see the offense trying to put up monster numbers and lead the lead in scoring. O.K. I do want that but generations of Bears fans can wish in one hand and sh*t in the other and see what fills up first. What I think is reasonable is the offense being top 12. With the balance we COULD have on offense establish the run, do a little play action and for Christ's sake have Cutler roll out 7-10 times a game. He is more nimble than he looks and could safely hurt defenses who play to heavy on the pass. I would sit Marshall the last 2 games to give his hip and body some rest before the Bengals come to town. Force Cutty to throw to everybody else and go through his progressions.

The defense could be in the last years of it's Dominance. They led the league in forcing turnovers, interceptions, and were making a run at the record for TD's by a defense in a season. Like Lance said " if it ain't broke don't try and fix it". I don't see them falling off too much this season or the next but after that its up to Emery to do his thang on the other side of the ball. Trestman has been given the reigns to a 10-6 play-off ready team. Mills and Long look solid on the right side and will continue to look better. Long looks like the kind of lineman who in 2 years will line up and tell the guy n front of him that we're running right at him and he's gonna get crushed.

Cut out the negative plays and convert a few more 3rd downs. When the defense or special teams gives you the ball in great field position don't waste those opportunities because if we convert 1 more touchdown in several of the games we lost we're in the mix for the ultimate prize.

Trestman is already well on his way to coaching the team into being much less penalized and he certainly has been drilling a higher speed of play calling and getting to the line of scrimmage fast. I see less wasted timeouts in our future but your expectations are pretty damned ridiculous. Jumping to a top 12 offense is going overboard. Also your other expectation of cutting 160+ negative plays down to 80+ negative plays seems a bit much off hand without looking at a ranked list. I wonder how many negative plays the best team had on that list.

I know what I want, but what I expect from the offense is fits and starts. I don't think the whole thing will be fluid this year until the last 3-4 games of the season. Still can be good enough to be much better than it was under lovie, and I expect going forward the offense to eventually to hit their stride later this year or next.

But I do expect plenty of flashes showing the potential of this offense all throughout the year.

I certainly think our offense will improve this year... and be way better than it was last year...

I think you will see Jay spreading the ball out a lot more in the next coming weeks...

He is obviously seeing where people will be on each play... and trying to memorize the offense.. its not as easy as it looks...

Remember the more he plays in the offense... the more comfortable he will be and the better he will look.. and with our pass blocking being improved he should also be able to see things develop he never got to see before...

Give it some time... it will come around soon...

Why is it ridiculous that with a top 5 WR, a top 12 RB who is also top 5 in catching out of the backfield, a top 12 QB, a legitimate 2nd receiver who has been training with the BEAST all off-season, a TE who can block first and actually catch TD's 2nd, 2 rookies on the right side of the line doing PDG their first start together and a top 5 defense returning with albeit a less accomplished MLB but I have faith in a guy who has a pick 6 in his first pro game ever. Oh yeah, I didn't even mention our CB's who started last years Pro Bowl. Our safties look pretty good too..... What do you think?

What does a Top 5 defense or superstar CBs have to do with being a Top 12 offense? Nothing. Jumping from the bottom of the league to the Top 12 in one off season is a huge jump. Not impossible, but improbable. Putting star players together is no guarantee for improvement. Just ask the Dream Team Philadelphia Eagles, the Lakers (twice already), the Bronze medal-winning Olympic basketball team, etc.

More often than not, a good coach with a good system and a team with leaders and heart will outplay a star-studded team with no chemistry.

How do you not see that we have the chemistry?
