The arbitrator who approved many of the workers' compensation settlements that awarded millions of taxpayer dollars to guards at the Menard Correctional Center for carpal tunnel syndrome received $48,790 for the same type of injury.

...

In December, the News-Democrat reported that seven of the state's 32 arbitrators either filed for or received a workers' compensation payment, including three for repetitive trauma, which can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome.

The newspaper reported the state paid nearly $10 million in payments over three years for claims by more than 230 guards at Menard, the majority of which were for repetitive trauma, which they said occurred from locking and unlocking cells.

Records show that Dibble approved more than 125 of the repetitive trauma cases for Menard guards.

There's a lot more to the story and a lot of disturbing Illinois corruption by people claiming BS injuries, to arbitrators exploiting the system they govern, to IL politicians trying to slow down or cover up the story.

Wow, corruption ain't just for Chicago, huh?

Clearly the system was abused and the only way to handle it is to removed the burden of worker's comp claims from all employers or at least pass the reform bill in Illinois now. Let the employers pick the physician and let control of treatment be handled by utilization review instead of doctors who examined the person.

The government should pay for a hooker to help you beat off if it comes to that. That's the kinda socialism I can support.
