This is the freakiest damn thing I've ever seen. The guy who caught it was on Conan tonight. Remind me to never fish in the Congo.

So is it dead or alive in that picture? Cause I wouldn't want to hold it.

Remind me never to fish in the Congo? Shit... remind me never to go SWIMMING in the congo...

On a unrelated related note, did anyone read the story about the new sub that Richard Branson is building to explore the deepest parts of the ocean. It is supposed to go to 36,000 feet. He's going to explore trenches and try to find new life and such, said all of it should cost about 10 mil and provide endless knowledge. 10 mil? Why does that sound so low to me? I mean if the government was doing this, it's be like 100 times that.

I guess he's piloting 1of the 5 missions himself into the trench by Puerto Rico. Can't wait to see what they find, I don't believe anything or anyone has been to the bottoms have they?

I know an manned vessel and 2 unmanned vessels have been to the bottom of Challenger Deep.

Challenger Deep Wikipedia

Interesting... and by the way, I love WIki for these things

The Challenger Deep is the deepest known point in the oceans, with a depth of 10,911 m (35,797 ft).

next paragraph

deep water mapping aboard the RV Kilo Moana, has indicated a spot with a depth of 10,971 m (35,994 ft)

No they said he let it go back in the water. So he was still alive. Scary right?

I wouldn't want to throw that thing back in... It could come back to eat us. The article says they can and have killed humans.... so yeah... I'll pass on any trip to the Congo...

Great show, loved the episode about the fresh water bull sharks, never knew they could happily co-exist with humans. No they dont bite the humans and the natives said the worst you get is a small bite.

I saw a show on the Discovery Channel (maybe) and a fellow was visiting an African village that had lost a little girl to this type of fish. He fished for days in several locations and finally caught one. It was exactly as pictured above. The fish has a double hinge on its jaw which allows it to open its mouth for extremely huge bites.
