"When Game 4 at the United Center finally ended, at 1:17 a.m. Wednesday with a Brent Seabrook blast in the third overtime, Blackhawks goalie Scott Darling hoisted a weary arm with the rest of his teammates while Predators goalie Pekke Rinne hung his head.

Both goalies were exhausted but only Darling felt exhilarated after surviving a 3-2 victory after 101 minutes of hockey that brought out the best in both competitors in the crease. By the end, both teams were slogging around like guys in a men’s league paying for ice time after midnight, a physical and mental toll perhaps felt most by the goaltenders.

“That was a real war,’’ said Darling, voted the game’s No. 1 star. “Thank you guys for sticking with us. … I can’t wait to get to bed.’’

The blackbawks have just stumbled into pretty good goalies these past few years. I blame that excellent D.
