One less potential destination for Aaron Rodgers, although the Saints' cap situation probably would have made that one untenable anyway.

I reported this days ago and people made fun of me.

Supposedly he's gonna take over for Aikman at fox sports.

As much as I like Payton as a coach, for him and Brees to only get one ring means that at least one of those guys is overrated. Its not like he was in the AFC and had to battle Brady, Manning and Big Ben.

I think they're like 70 million over the cap or something. Yeah I'd rather sip a beer and lower stress levels too if I was him.

Coulda won zero Superbowl and I'd still want him more than anyone.

Imagine what he could do with Fields. A QB who can actually run his Hill package And throw.

That being said, he's gonna go to fox network I guess. Won't be shocked if he unretires in a few years.

100% correct man. Cap hell, no QB at all, not really any sexy QB's in this draft class.

He should just stepped down when Brees did.

This is what it looks like to me...

The Saints are in cap space hell this offseason. They aren't going to get better, and may in fact get much worse. I feel like Sean Payton doesn't wanna deal with a blown up roster and rebuild at this point in his career. Since he has a few years remaining on his contract, and obviously the Saints don't want to fire him, I think he's going to take a break and wait for a year or two before returning after the Saints clean up the mess. At that point, there may be two options... The saints suck and get a top pick in the draft and Payton returns to draft a QB and be the savior.... or maybe the Saints actually like who they have in place and agree to let Payton go elsewhere.

Either way, I don't think this is it for Payton. I just don't think he wants to deal with the shitstorm that NOLA will be dealing with in the next year or two.

Is there any scenario where he can join another team without a trade before his contract officially ends? Like when the Saints officially hire a new head coach? Or if a team gives him a promotion (like dual HC + Pres of Football Ops)?

I say look into it. You don't rule yourself out... let him rule us out. Right now the Saints get very little back with him retiring... maybe some cash.... we can certainly offer them more than just cash -- even it is a first round pick in year 2027 - something (a 2027 first rounder) the Los Angeles Lakers did just today to try to goose a trade - so there is precedent for something like that/its not unheard of.

Plus he has strong local ties and is supposedly good friends with George McCaskey.

All of this is not likely to happen but we would be negligent if we did not at least give him a phone call.
