I think if Cardenas has a hell of a spring, he could take the starting spot from Barney. But his D ain't gunna help his case.

im going to go out on a limb and say Theo saw a sign of turn around for Cardenas. i think he is going to return to prove why he was a top spec in 08 and 09

Cubs 2nd baseman collectively were 17th in mlb ranked by OPS last year just as a point of reference.

But IMO Cardenas is the ideal guy you want hitting in the #2 hole I could see him starting because of that alone. We dont have a #2 hole hitter on the roster outside of him. He takes pitches and will take walks and gets on base and is a lefty that is what you want in the #2 hole ideally you want a little more pop but currently he is the best #2 hole guy in camp.

Barney isn't horrible, but he's our best option until Cardenas comes up. If Cardenas can develop his defense, he could be a serviceable second baseman.
