The private company I work for gave me shares. They give me distributions. I’m new to all shares and all that shit. Was wondering, if the company goes public, what happens to my shares?

You keep them and they are valued at whatever the market dictates. Whether or not they would continue to pay dividends would be up to the newly formed board of directors.

Sounds good. Thanks man. Any suggestions on what I should invest my money into? I’m credit card debt free and I just have my wife’s car to pay off which will be done by next March. I currently pay rent but not sure what to do with the money I’m saving.

Step 1: Invest in Vanguard Index funds - VTI or VOO
Step 2: Do nothing

I have read and seen videos about vanguard Index Funds. Need to do more research about Index funds. I hear about ETFs, mutual funds, and what not. I really need to understand all these different funds. Any suggestion on a book or video that can explain this detailed? Also,is this for retirement only or actually making dividends while you go?

This is usually when some "expert" comes in and tells everyone they are "all wrong, and only he knows the true secret to wealth".

Jim Johnson was the guy for years. Not sure about this one but I think The Ohio State guy also did that, sorry if I'm confusing that with his Vegas expertise.

In pretty much any conversation about investments there is at least one guy convinced he is "the man with the plan".

VOO looks pretty good. I have a different Vangard Index fund but as thinking of changing.

And is this VTI the you mentioned?

Check out this blog. It's long but worth the read. I stumbled upon this guy about a year ago when I was sick of spending time reading and researching which companies to invest in, how much, when to buy/sell, etc. Day trading is exhausting and difficult. My Vanguard funds are a secondary investment thing for me. I have a pension and 401k, but everyone also talks about how you will need more in retirement so I just started a basic Wealth Savings account. Currently invest in 3 Vangaurd funds - VTI (Total US Stock), VEA (Developed Markets - Europe and Japan) and VWO (Emerging Markets). I automatically reinvest all dividends. Very passive and simple and I could withdraw funds if I ever needed to for an emergency.

Lots of different ways to invest, this has been the strategy that makes more sense for me.

True, a lot of the actual experts do recommend Vanguard stock market index funds to those that don't have any experience/knowledge about individual stocks.

Yeah I have no interest in doing massive research into hundreds of different companies to find the ones I want. I know guys that have turned investing into a second job to the detriment of other parts of their lives. It's like they disappeared down that rabbit hole, never to be seen again.

My goal is to buy a house cash in 3-4 years. If I can’t do it all, then at least 60%. So I’m trying to see how I can make my money work where I’m getting something back every year for those 3-4 years. So I’m trying to see if this is the best route to make the most money in return.

Not sure how private shares convert after an IPO if a company goes public... Does this company have a plan to go public? If you work for this company probably shouldn't share with the rest of the world... Maybe I am paranoid, but giving out info on a company for investment purposes could be considered illegal...

Anyways if your semi active investor, I've been in and out of a double leveraged Nasdaq 100 fund for the last 2 yrs and killing it. There is also an inverted version... Going long I use RYVYX... Have done very well.... Down today though.

I’m not sure if they are or not. I was just researching about investing my personal money into something and that question about my shares arose. So I figured I’d ask because I was just curious. Which I haven’t shared anything about the company as well. Not really focusing on the shares but more of my personal money and investing it. Just need to learn about investing now.

Read, read, read....

1st start with a plan. what do you want to have in retirement. Home paid off, income, other assets? Put a plan together to get there.... There's a lot of info out there... Stick to your plan... Win life!!!!!

1st action though, very simple.. Company offers matching contributions to 401k... Always max it out to get every free cent offered..

What's their contribution... A lot are 50% up to a certain percentage. Something like that... If there is an employer match of some type, you need to take full advantage of it... Free money... I am always astounded when I talk to people that don't max their 401k contribution...
