The Bobcats.

It was a riduculous bush-league idea when the franchise was launched.

But more than that it was hideously self-centered since the "Bob" in the Bobcats refers to the owner whose name was Robert (it's a good thing his first name isn't Richard). While I understand his accomplishments as the first African American owner and applaud him for attaining it, if we're going to be honored shouldn't we leave that up to other people rather than honoring ourselves? I don't know...

In any case, since Jordan has just bought the franchise and the name was terrible from day one, should the name be changed to something that properly represents North Carolina (and not to mention basketball, something that at least sounds cool)?

Are there any other team names that need to be changed?

I know Utah have been the Jazz far longer than New Orleans was but for crying out loud. Let the Hornets be the Jazz already. The Utah Jazz? That's like having Lil Wayne at The Grand Ole' Opry for crying out loud.

Sometimes we get so used to the way something sounds we don't realize what we're talking about. The LA Lakers? If they didn't have the history they do there never would have been a Minnesota Timerwolves. They would make been the Minnesota Lakers.

The only other one for me is the Oklahoma City Thunder. I've spent a few nights in Oklahoma and know how it thunders but it just sounds kinda awkward to me. Maybe I hated to see the Seattle Supersonics go and am biased. Maybe it's those hideous uniforms or that giant tacky and generic logo on the court. Maybe the name of the franchise is just too long...don't know but there's just something about it.

Are there any grizzly bears in Memphis?

Teams that relocate rarely change their names because of their history which is also why most teams that change owners rarely change their names. The Lakers, Jazz, Hornets, Grizzlies, Warriors, Rockets, Pistons, Clippers (even though the were first the Braves, after their 2nd move they kept their San Diego name), & Bullets (aka the Wizards) all kept their names after switching cities. Only the Thunder (former Supersonics), 76ers (former Nationals), & Kings (former Royals) changed their names after moves, though the Kings kept the name after moving from Kansas City to Sacramento.

I don't think the Bobcats are that bad of a name & see no need for change, which would mean a new logo, uniforms, repainting the court, etc. The name is no worse than the Knickerbockers, which I think is the dumbest name ever for a sports team. Yea let's call a team the Las Vegas Gym Shorts while we're at it.

I gotta agree with Diddy on this one. For the most part, most team names suck. I mean say you were in Chicago in 1964 and someone said "hey were getting this new bodacious team for basketball man, its totally far outtt...were gonna be the Chicago Bulls, isint that just the most!!!"....I'd reply "Actually my friend, that is not gnarley, because we do not have Bulls in chicago. Why not call use the Chicago Snowballs!

I am cool with the name and actually think their new jerseys are some of the best in the NBA. I would buy one if they had 1 marketable player on their team.

That's it, the Bulls need to change their name.

Does anyone have any team names that might be better than Bulls. Something that represents Chicago better than Bulls.

So far "Chicago Snowballs" is in the lead.

Whatcha got?

historically Chicago has been the meatpacking center of America. all those cattle drives brought the cows and bulls to chicago so they could be processed and packaged. That's why they're called the bulls.

Way to know your Chicago history. See it pays to be in high school, some of the time anyway. :)

Our name is fine, appropriate & I think the best name in all the NBA. Suck it New York Knickerbockers! :woohoo:
