Should Rose cut down his 3 pt attempts?

He was 0/9 today. Over all, he was 10/23. If you exclude his 3 pt attempts, he was 10/14. The thing is, he doesnt just have to go to the basket OR shoot a three. Rose has one of the nicest mid-range jumpers in the game. I think there were a couple of 3/4 court heaves as time expired, so thats still 0/7. Would Rose be more effective if he shot less threes?

Absolutely and i also mentioned the mid-range jumper point in the game thread. I dont know whey he completely went away from it.

I loved his aggressiveness to the basket. He knows he can get whatever he wants that way. Hopefully he cuts the attempts to around 4 a game. He can attempt more if hes hitting them.

If players are contuinally going to sag under screens, then I have no problem with him shooting 3's. He's proven he can hit them.

There were one or two three's that he had no business taking tonight. And that is usually the case once or twice everynight. It wasn't a bad 0-of-9 but he's had some shittier 0-of-6 nights as well.

Boozer needs to get involved in the offense and then the Bulls wouldn't need to depend on Rose for ALL of their offense. The three's would definitely go down then.

Let him shoot the 3 if he's wide open, but it shouldn't be his first option. If the lane isn't open to drive and there's no room for a spot-up jumper, do your best to find the open man.

I said this before in another forum. The 3ball is like a new toy for DRose, sometimes he just can't wait to play with it.

That being said, I agree with pretty much all points on when he should shoot his 3ball. More midrange would be nice.

I think the problem tonight was just that the Pacers were hitting a lot of their shots and we never could cut into the lead...so Rose felt if he could hit a three or 2 then it would really help cut the deficit.

He chucked too much, but if he hits 1...he may hit 3 in a row.

Meh...we won...that's all that matters.

with Derrick, any shot is fine. Im more surprised when they dont go in, no matter what kinda shot he takes.

He usually goes zero for something on three's if you look back on his game logs...

for the reg. season, he made 33%...not great, but not awful....

(and he actually finished percentage points ahead of LeBrick from 3 :smug2: )

I don't think he should cut back much. 5 per game is about right, but if they are going in he can take a couple more. 33% 3's is as good as 50% 2's (assuming we're getting our share of offensive rebounds). The shots are important even if they are not going in because they help spread the floor and make him harder to defend.

I do agree he needs to take more midrange jumpers, though. I guess he feels like, if he is not going to drive to the basket, why not get the extra point? But I'm sure he would hit more from 12-15 feet than he does from 20 feet. The thing is when he gets inside 12 feet, he's so fast, you can't stop him from going to the rim, so why not go for the foul and get the and 1?

I think it's kind of funny that we are nitpicking the next MVP's shot selection! But he's so good, there's not much else to be critical of him with.
