Yea, a man can dream. With a plethera of young guns at their disposal, it would seem logical to add a prime arm to the rotation. The only problem is, why the hell would Lee want to go to Chicago? I'm sure the Cubs are looking at him, along with most other teams, but it is unlikely that they can pull off such a collosal deal. It also doesn't help that superstars don't thrive in Chicago if they aren't made there. It'll be interesting to see where he goes, but he needs to realize that this is the year, and history will forever remember him if he hops on the train. :turrible:

yeah, somehow getting cliff lee while cutting a tenth of our payroll sounds feasible.

Again if we didnt have cheap azz owner we could try to get Lee and we have a nice rotation. People who keep saying owner not cheap think about the names we keep hearing for the CHC. All cheap azz guys who need to rebound.

It's called being fiscally responsible (somewhat :smug2: )

Sure we bring in plenty of cash every year.. but Wrigley requires 10-20 mill every offseason for upkeep. Let alone player and staff salaries..

I'd love to get Cliff Lee as much as anybody here if money were no object..

Maybe if we didn't blow a shitload of cash up Soriano and Fuky's ass then we could make a play.

Cliff Lee isn't what this team needs. This team needs to be completely rebuilt from the ground up. Start building a minor league system that develops players for the big leagues and then we can combine some big FA spending with minor league players. The veterans on this team need to be dealt so we can start again.. Sori, Fuki, Ramirez. If we can't deal them, then we'll simply wait until their contracts expire and take it from there.

Spending $150M on Cliff Lee only makes sense when you're 1 or 2 pieces away. We're 20 pieces away.

Farm system has improved along with the lines of international scouting in the past years since the hiring of Wilken as SD.

Fuky and Rami could feasibly be dealt at the deadline.. Soriano will have to be at a later date.

Completely agree on Lee but we're closer than 20 pieces.

The name of the thread says "should the Cubs go after Cliff Lee"..

making 10 yr $160 mil deals is ridiculous, I don't care who you are. Soriano turned out to be a flop that will haunt the cubbies for a while. Fukadome looked promising, but again, jumped the gun and wasted money. As far as I'm concerned, Lee is nearing a drop in his career, and is a liability. Maybe he would do well in chicago, I doubt it. Many good pitchers have been ruined by the cubs, they must be home grown to be effective for the most part.

The Cubs have the same chance of signing Cliff Lee as they do in getting rid of Soriano.

Lee would be great but we wont give up the kind of money he'll end up getting elsewhere.
