of course this all depends on his salary demands, but if he takes equal or less to what he did last year, i say keep him

If we can keep him at a 4th line price then it is worth it. I really don't think he should skate in the top 6, he just lacks too many skills. But his speed is dominate in the bottom 6 and he really tries hard.

Stahlberg isn't a 4th line guy - (he also isn't a top 6 guy unless you have a free slot for a development project -which I don't think Chicago has with Kane, Toews, Sharp, Hossa, a hyopothetical 2nd line centre and probably Frolik.

That makes him a 3rd line winger - 4th line being for dedicated checkers and defencive forwards (which Stalberg isn't - unless you want to convert him to that ... for the price of 4th line defencive forwards, that doesn't seem like a sound idea to try to convert a guy who is probably going to get more money than what a 4th liner ought to be getting.

That being said, I'd make him a qualifying offer to preserve any sort of compensation that an RFA signing elsewhere would bring, but I don't really see him having a slot at the expense of say, Smith, or Krueger, or any of the other guys out there -who knows, maybe Beach might be ready this season (although if there is any question of that - I would consider dealing the guy (Beach) in a package).

But Stalberg should definitely material for the trade block.

:yep: Or he can be a draft day trade.

I vote no simply because there's no room for him.Toews,Kane,Sharp,Hossa,Bolland Frolik and Bickell, that's 7 of your top 9.Krueger,Morin or Smith will be taking at least 1 of those spots(both if the Hawks don't get a 2nd line center). That leaves the 4th line and he is not a 4th liner.I love his speed and his newfound forechecking ability, but he doesn't bring the right game for it.I don't see where he fits,so I say get what you can for him and give the roster spot to a rookie(or a cheap 4th line ufa).

I was for him for awhile but I'd rather seem him dealt away now and leave the space for another one of those AHL's that showed their effort and skill like Ben Smith or Morin next season.

tbh...even though he is my favorite Blackhawks player (no joke) if his spot is taking up room for either smith or morin, he should go
