cubs fan opinion, but I say no...

If you are within 6 games at the trade deadline you DO NOT sell

I know we just dropped out of first and it maybe a reaction from losing since the astros series, but this would really help for next year.

yeah i know. we just got out of first and are a half game back....i know that would be a bad message to send to the fan base. The division is weak as **** and winnable, i just see det and cle getting fleeced in a deal for this year and adding some major pieces.

I guess I wouldn't be opposed to it. Peavy is having a decent year, if we can net some good prospects to help next year I would be ok with it. I guess it really depends on who all we would be trading. Part of me wants to keep Dunn, but if we are rebuilding he is probably one of the guys that gets us a good return. Its a tough call.

I love Dunn.

Heres what I would do realistically:

Trade rios for salary relief and no spects, and yes there are GMs that will take him and need an outfielder.

Trade Peavy and get whatever the market dictates

Trade Thornton. Tons of teams looking for lefty relievers that can still throw hard.

Trade AJ. I would be heartbroken, but he has value.

Trade Crain. Get what the market dictates

Than insert some guys into the BP like humber when Danks comes back, and call up a schmuck like Veal.

The lineup would be the rest of the year

De Aza
Beckham
Dunn
Konerko
Viciedo
Danks
Ram
Flowers
Hudson

and with this shitty ass division it can still probably be had with that team. Ughh I hate the sox.

I'd rather keep Dunn to, he's going to be an offense contributor to this team. He probably gets us the best return, but I can see us getting other stuff with the guys you mentioned.

yeah keep dunn around and PK.

If we can get rid of the rios contract plus no more peavy next year and the thornton contract. We can be in good shape to reform this club.

I hate you all. I have been saying we should sell when we were like 6 games up because everyone should have been able to tell that we were overachieving, not being the team we were expected to be. KW sell so you can stop bitching about attendence and so that we can be successful for years to come.

Dews, I like your thinkning, but I would like to add some moves to your list.
I would also consider dealing Alexei Ramirez. Now before you all jump on me and call me crazy, here is why. Alexei is 30, and is starting to come off his peak physical years, defined by ESPN as 27-32. (No link, I saw it on TV) So why not trade him while he has value, and net a decent return. At his age, he is not going to be a part of the team's future and I'm interested in seeing what Eduardo Escobar can do as a starter. Saying this some interested parties would be the Rays, Red Sox, the Angels, and the Giants.

Another player I would consider dealing is Adam Dunn, but my asking price would be pretty steep since he still has two years on his contract, and he is one of the best hitters in the American League. In addition since he loves Chicago, he is a very re-signable player.

Then let's not forget Gavin Floyd, trade him for, like you said Dews, whatever the market dictates and get him out of here. So here is my lineup for the remainder of the season.

P Sale
P Quintana
P Humber
P Axelrod
p Leesman (until Danks returns)
CL Reed

1. De Aza CF
2. Beckham 2B
3. Flowers C
4. PK 1B
5. Viciedo DH
6. Danks LF
7. Hudson 3B
8. Escobar SS
9. Lillibridge RF

Now that is a shitty line-up, but the three additional trades would hopefully net some impact prospects with ETA's within 2 years of acquisition. And we would have money free'd up to pick some decent free agents in the offseason. Quite frankly I dont like Kenny orchestrating this rebuild, but he has done it before with the 2007 team. Sorry for the White Flag, but this team isn't going anywhere if we make the playoffs.

I never thought that humber and floyd would have been this bad, I didnt for see a danks injury...thats why..if those 3 are normal we dont sell

You're right except Humber is where I actual expect him to be for a fifth starter. Every once and while he'll have a bad start but for the most part he give us quality innings, but as far as Floyd being terrible I agree, if he doesn't blow hard every start we have a chance, but I would argue Quintana has pitched the same if not better than what we would have gotten from Danks, but that's all speculation, thing is we have to sell now because this team is going nowhere fast.

what sucks is we are 2 moves away from being pretty solid. 1 Starting pitcher and a 3Bmn. But JR might be forecasting his bottom line to going into the red and if thats the case i back KW not making a move or 2 i just dont back him going public in every outlet that he isnt going to buy. But lets not forget, he says this all the time and still makes moves. We were in "trouble" in 2010 and he said they were going to rebuild, what does he do, he signs dunn, resigns PK and AJ. There is a method to his madness, there could be a reason such as not showing desperation to the other teams and keeping his poker face.

Haha I swear you were just bashing him the other day, but I agree KW usually somehow comes out on top with his moves, I mean everyone questioned the Santos deal, the Quentin deal, and the Rowand deal and I think we got the best of all three so I'll step back and see what he does

Noway you sell with KW jumping on the fans then you trade off a major player not good..Bad idea unless we fall way behind with the bullpen may not take long.

Their not winning lately because the pitching ( sans a few) has been shit for about a month now and the offense which was bailing them out is scuffling.

I don't know if they need to sell. I would give that more time. I think for now they need to look to add another arm in the rotation (who knows if Danks returns this year), in the pen and a third baseman. These guys don't need to be aces or silver sluggers or anything. Just someone who we can control for another year or so (similar to Edwin Jackson a few years ago) and I'd go balls deep for Mark Reynolds if possible.

He had a really shitty April, they threatened to bench him, then he got hot untill the first part of June, and since then has been meh.

But, its your classic power hitter plus U.S. Cellular field, plus hot weather type deal.

It would be fun to watch him try to play 3B on the southside.
