Since Thomas Brown wasn't retained, will Bears hire Mike McCarthy as OC?

He does have a vicarious relationship with Caleb and has a history of developing QBs. He might want to take a step back after the high-pressure job he had in Dallas.

I would say Slowik might be a decent choice, but I'm not sure he's good enough to hire right after he got fired

Texans fire Bobby Slowik after 2 seasons as OC

The Texans won the AFC South (10-7) in 2024 and reached the divisional round for the second consecutive season, but the offense struggled throughout the year. The Monday after the season concluded, coach DeMeco Ryans said he wanted to take a week to evaluate the staff, and when asked about Slowik's performance, he was short and didn't give a ringing endorsement.

"I think overall with Bobby, I saw some growth," Ryans said. "I saw some improvement throughout the year."

"Overall, offensively, it wasn't where we wanted to be," Ryans said. "There were challenges throughout the year, that is every year. You have challenges, you have ups and downs where you try to figure out the course, who we have and how to make it work. We have to improve."

I'm more worried about the DC. Whoever is brought in to be the OC is going to be a yes man for the HC.

Someone like a Klint Kubiak may not be a bad option if he's available.

If Johnson could get Dennis Allen as his DC ok, absolutely. However if they don't get Allen I really don't believe that they have to poach for big names.

They could be very effective by deciding whether he wants to stay with the current 4-3 or switch to a 3-4 and then look for upstart position coach that central to the defensenyour running.

If your staying with the 1 GAP 4-3, you don't necessarily need a veteran DC when you already have veteran players, especially at both the WILL/MIKE LB positions.

I would look for a quality defensive line coach like Kris Kocurek from the 49ers.

If they're moving to a 3-4 I would love to see a LB coach like Greg Manusky from the Broncos. That Broncos defense played well beyond expectations this year and an assistant like Manusky was right at the heart of that.

If they get Allen then great. Getting a DC position in the city of Chicago is probably the best job a defensive minded coach can get short of very limited HC openings for defensive coaches.

If they don't, then get a defensive line coach for DC who is going to get this front 4 up and off from its ass, as well as help identify the young defensive line prospects your looking to bring in during the offseason.

The only pressure Mike McCarthy has ever been under was when he couldn't decide home many take home pizzas he wanted before the kitchen closed.

Do you just try to think of topics to start a thread about? I mean, you can’t really seriously have these thoughts can you? Mike mcCarthy as OC?

McCarthy? That's a pipedream. Can't see us building a super-staff with former HCs.

The OC will probably be some guy that Johnson is familiar with from a past stop that isn't a huge name.

McCarthy is not taking a job where he wouldn’t even be calling plays. He will get a HC job soon, if not this year then next.

That'd be something. You hire a head coach on the cutting edge of offense and pair him with a West Coast relic.
