Site maintenance and downtime intermittently after midnight CST

Just a heads up, after midnight tonight and a few other nights, the site will be going through some maintenance.

-Routine software updates.
-Database cleaning (sorry, some post counts will go down from purging old reported posts.)
-Disabled registration
-Reindexing the site
-Other miscellaneous haps


There will be times when you can't access the site at all. Times where the site is up, and posting/searching will not work. When the site is up during maintenance times, it will be a post at your own risk(of losing the post) type of deal.


In the past, the downtime for this level of maintenance has been between 30-90 minutes. But I'm not sure what it would be now, considering that we have nearly 2x as much content on the site, overall(blog and forum) from the last time.

If you guys want any of your visitor messages(user wall) pruned from the database. I suggest deleting any of them that you don't want.

We're going to be dropping compatibility for old Internet Explorer users soon. About 1% of users are still using internet explorer 8 or older. It might still run fine, I don't know. But we're not going to write compatibility code any more to go along with a highly vulnerable browser from 5+ years ago.

I know some people are stuck on XP at work that do not have permission to install a newer browser like Firefox or Chrome. Unfortunately I can't limit the optimizations of the site to handle old ajax and html5 compatibility. There is an initiative starting in 2013 that dropped support for bad markup code, which rendered Internet Explorer 6,7,8,9 useless for many major sites. Internet Explorer 10 can still render the majority of web compliant standards.

Done. Less than 2 hours of downtime.

Fully updated, cleaned, reindexed, and other misc haps. Rebooting server now, then it'd ready for activity.
