An Australian skydiver was likely saved by a fellow jumper who pulled his ripcord for him after he suffered an apparent seizure during freefall. In dramatic (really) video from the helmet cam of his instructor Sheldon McFarlane, a student skydiver identified only as Christopher at first seemed fine as he fell from 12,000 feet over Pinjarra. Things obviously went wrong as Christopher's limbs seemed to tense up and he rolled over on his back, falling away from his instructor. What happened next would be worthy of an action movie. McFarlane dove after his student and managed to grab hold of him long enough to release his parachute at high altitude.

Christopher regained consciousness at 3,000 feet and was able to take control of the chute and land safely. It seemed like all in a day's work for the folks at WA Skydiving Academy. "The guy came to consciousness under the canopy well before he landed," Robin O'Neill, chief instructor for the school, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). "He landed uneventfully. It was a controlled landing in the Pinjarra drop zone." The student was fine by the time he landed and no medical attention was required but there was clearly knowledge that he had a medical condition. "(Christopher's) treating specialist wrote a letter specifically saying he was fit for skydiving," O'Neill told ABC. "Obviously he wasn't."

Umm...do they not use AADs there or something? Don't get me wrong, good work by the other guy for recognizing the problem and manually opening the chute, but he should have been fine even without that assuming they have proper gear.

If Christopher has a hot girlfriend, I think Sheldon is entitled to at least a BJ.

Yes, they do have them... Heard the instructor talking about it on the radio this morning.

It's hard to even remember back to when things like this happened but weren't recorded on video.

That's why you don't jump alone. Luckily, I have never had a bio or a technical issue jumping, nor have my friends. But it does happen. Mechanical injuries from landing, that's a different story, glad to hear they guy landed okay.

I was friends with a guy who loved to jump out of planes. One of his fellow jumpers had a problem and took it in. My friend never jumped again.

Took it in? Damn...

Skydiving never interested me.

Would you consider sky tubing where they drag you behind an airplane on an inner-tube?

...Is that a thing?

At least they weren't jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. Clearly that plane was only marginally good.

I think I remember Yves Rossy AKA the Jet Man saying his initial plan was to perfect sky surfing. But it was impossible, so he invented his powered wing suit instead.
