So, Fields is the real deal? Right?

Lmao he is already gone guys you don't need to diminish everything he does right anymore

We can maybe just admit he might very well succeed somewhere that isn't the fucking clown show pace and Nagy were running
He's got his shot on a good team and had a year of great coaching in Buffalo. Doesn't change the fact that he'll probably be a journeyman for most of his career. Don't see how that's a slam. There's nothing wrong with it. It's a great job if you're of the few that can get it but the Steelers took a 1st round QB for a reason.

Finally got around to watching the whole game, and I have to say that Fields looked pretty fucking good. Yes I know it was pre season and there was a bunch of wide open guys but I dont care about that. Last year he struggled reading a D, he struggled a little bit in game one as well with that. But I have to say that this game he looked comfortable was accurately identifying the correct target going through his progressions correctly and delivering an accurate throw on time. Hopefully this will translate into real games when the windows will be tighter, the pressure will come faster, and the defensive looks will be more exotic. But as of right now he looked great..
I think that 1st 1/2 was Getsy game planning and Justin being the great student he is. Those easy throws were helped by both. That Kmet TD was setup by an earlier toss to a back on that same play and Fields selling it. He was selling a lot and browns buying that game.

How often have we seen our previous staff look like they were setting something up to not do it and run what was already being defended against.

Fields is overrated and is going to be a bust.

But then again I feel that way about most of the quarterbacks.

Trevor Lawrence I think will just be okay.

Zach Wilson has the best "chance" to be something very good, although I'm not entirely sold on him either.

So going to be very honest here.

I don't know how to feel about this pick.

The scouting reports that I saw had him as a developmental project with a lot of physical talent.

However, for those who have followed my brief stint here and my discussions on quarterback, you would know that the number one thing I value in a quarterback isn't physical talent but the ability to read a defense, come off your first receiver, and beat the blitz. These are all things that the scouting reports I read said he struggled with.

Now I don't follow college football because it just isn't as enjoyable as the pro game to me. So I haven't watched a single minute of this kid play. I'm trusting the scouting reports because I have nothing else personally to tell me whether they are right or wrong. But I have seen many many times the scouting reports be completely wrong on a player. And everyone mentions the physical tools Justin Fields has, which at least that is a consensus.

But on the flip side the league has a history of extremely gifted college quarterbacks who fail in the pros because they can't read the defense or keep up.

So that is my main concern.

It's still too early for me to see whether the pick was good or bad. I understand it but I may have wanted to go in a different direction personally and shore up the offensive line, and leave quarterback for next year.

I could entirely be wrong on this and I hope I am. Just more taking a wait and see approach.

The one thing I will say is that this whole discussion about the Bears finally taking a black quarterback is entirely asinine from both sides of the argument. The Bears have had black quarterbacks before and have had black starting quarterbacks before. The fact that they didn't work out isn't a reflection of a prejudice against black quarterbacks, but instead a reflection of just how terrible the Bears are at selecting a quarterback of ANY color, because there have been white quarterbacks who have lasted just as long as the black quarterbacks the Bears have had. You can't argue prejudice when they've just been flat terrible at the position. Well you could make that argument but you'd look like an idiot. Same goes for the knee jerk people who are saying that the other side can shut up now that the Bears have a black quarterback. Even bringing up the discussion is really stupid and if that's the sort of thing that means the most to you it's more of a reflection of just how flawed you are rather than the position of quarterback with the Bears which in and of itself is a Greek tragedy.

Anyway I've said my peace on that bit.

Whatever you need to tell yourself in order to sleep at night.

Funny thing though - an intelligent person can see from just the 2 posts I quoted that my opinion of Fields actually evolved the more I saw him play and had nothing to do with him joining the team - especially since I am someone who wants to actually SEE something first before I make grand pronouncements. Its called an evolving opinion.

I wasn't particularly homerific in that September post, but by that December post, I had seen enough to know that at a bare minimum, we have a GOOD quarterback, something Chicago hasn't actually seen in my lifetime (no, I would not consider Cutler or McMahon as good, but average, and I consider good a cut above that).

What's hilarious is all the excuses you are making to salve your ego.

Just man up and take the loss, Bearly.
Uhhhhhhhh, yeah.

That reason being they just lost their super bowl quarterback and they are flooding the position with talent in hopes they find their guy
Which who knows its possible trubisky could be it
We certainly cannot say he isn't let's at least be honest about it there's nobody who could have succeeded with the Nagy and pace show and we really have no fucking idea what trubisky could have actually became at this point

Whatever. 3rd team = journeyman and most Pittsburgh fans prefer the rookie. My posts on this are neutral observations. I never hated the guy.

Yeah there is a difference when you are having a debate in a thread about a topic and you reference someone's posts about that topic VS going through someone's history (or in your case have someone else do the work so a 2 man operation) and create a new thread all with the purpose of trying to embarrass someone.. one is just normal debating the other is cringey.

It seems MJY is living rent free in your head when you have to resort to that.. Its not a good look.
