Anybody got any experience with these. Sounds like a great way to reduce AC costs. I've read mixed bag of reviews on line. Saw them at Sam's club this weekend, but read bad things aboot the warranty with that one. I'm looking at other brands currently. Any comments appreciated. Will help me make a decision.

My advice is to make sure you get the right size for your attic. Underpowered and too small and it will suck more electricity keeping up.

They are solar powered, won't be plugged into the meter at all.

Why? Does it have to put hooked up to your electricity as a backup power source?

My bad. I was thinking of a whole house attic fan. I am lacking sleep and this sunburn is driving me fucking nuts.

My neighbor got an attic fan. He said he doesn't notice a huge dent in his cooling bill, but our places were fucked from the beginning. Instead of actual square sheet metal ducts, they used duct tubing. Think the tube that goes from your dryer to outside, only a little bigger. All those ridges trap the air and make the furnace inefficient. He did notice that his upstairs seems more inline with the downstairs temperature wise.

That's why I'm considering it. The 2nd floor of my home is several degrees warmer than the 1st floor in the summer and cooler in the winter.

2nd floor? Will you be able to easily access the solar panels for cleaning? One of the cons against that I've heard with solar power is that dust, soot, etc. will build up and prevent them from operating efficiently.

Won't be a problem. The solar panel is not that big on these units, maybe 2' x 2'. Getting to the roof is not an issue. The 2nd floor of the house is just under 1000 sqft. The base models of most of these fans do 1300-1500 sqft. The 1st floor roof (split lvl) home is probable twice as large and has a gable vent so a solar power gable vent fan is the eventual plan there.

Are you sure you want an energy conscious solution to powering the fan? I mean, someone might mistake you for a liberal......lol.

I was kidding with you, hence the "lol". But yeah, whatever, I just hate anyone that is or resembles a CONservative and Republican party member/voter.
