I saw this story on the news tonight about many soldiers in the Iowa National Guard trying to resolve payment issues because they are worried about the effect it will have on their families. It is a good story and very unsettling. They will be deploying and need to concentrate on preparing for that. They deserve better than this and so do their families.

Yeah this sounds like computer problems at the defense department. It is amazing how paper work can get clogged up like this. Hopefully it getting out in the press will light a fire under the army's ass to fix it. Soldiers don't get paid enough anyway.

In 2000 a one letter typo on my DD 214 held up my Air Force severance pay when I got discharged(voluntary reduction in force program). Since I had 17 years in service it was not chump change.

The DOD finance office was not very helpful. After spending hours on the phone with them, one of the reps basically told me I'd have to file a congressional complaint to get it straightened out in less than 6-12 months.

3 months after filing my congressional complaint I got my check in the mail. I also got an IRS audit because they screwed up the W-2 for it. That took another 3-4 months to straighten out.

The DOD finance office always pissed me off. If they fucked you over it would takes months to straighten out if it was in your favor. If you owed them I guarantee that money was gone from your paycheck the very next pay period and on until you payed the debt.

Complete BS. The government needs to take care of the people who serve.

I bet the politicians in Washington never have to worry about being paid.

**** them, pay the people who deserve it.

Bingo.

I think what they should do is take said pay out of the Gov's and State Representatives/senates paychecks. After all, the Iowa national guard is actually doing something--unlike the politicians.
