That could be a very different NFL if that happened. I wonder what the haul would be. The Bears traded for Cutler a few months before the story broke, so we could be looking at that as a model.

Also, relevantish because Singletary has tried to get involved in the HC discussion for the Bears (yeah, no)

Ultimately for me, the thing I didn't like is that Singletary said he was trying to build character, but now would do it different if he was presented that now. I guess character doesn't matter as much to him any more.

Food for thought
1) What kind of return couldve been there?
2) Was Singletary right to write it off due to character concerns?
3) How would the Bears have faired differently with Ben instead of Jay?
4) Big Ben - still a rapey douche?
5) Does the inability to trade Ben have modern ramifications for Watson?
6) Would Singletary have faired better if he didn't nix the trade?

I don’t feel like this ever happened. Never heard heard any Ben to sf rumors before.

Ben has shown a much better persona since when that trade would have been considered so saying that he'd consider it with what he knows now is not a lowering of standards. That said, I think he may be overstating that it was a done deal. Maybe it's all those cracked helmets.

To be clear, this is based on a Pompei piece in The Athletic.

"Of middle linebacker Roquan Smith, Singletary says, “Right now he’s at a crossroads with being great and just being another good linebacker.” Singletary believes Smith, like many players, lacks proper technique."

"I believe I can be one of the greatest coaches ever, a better coach than I was a player. There’s no doubt in my mind. I’ve had experience, and more importantly, I’ve failed. I really believe now is the time for Mike Singletary and the Bears to come together again and for them to trust me again with the organization."

This is after he failed in SF, failed bad as a HS coach (1-21), failed in the AAF (2-6). He's resilient, that's for sure.

One takeaway for the Bears is how limited he was in terms of assembling his coaching staff. He says he wishes he cleaned house, but had limited knowledge of candidates because he didn't have the connections (10 years out of football at that time). That is something that someone like Quinn could bring at least (trying to talk myself into Quinn here because I think it's happening.)

I was born in the early 70s in North Dakota. Late in the 70s I watched the Bears play the Vikings on tv and fell in love with the way Walter Payton played football. Been a Bears fan ever since. The ride that the early 80s into the SB Bears team was pretty insane. Singletary was so fun to watch. The way he orchestrated things on the field and directed the chaos of those crazed 46 Defense blitzes and absolute demolishing of opposing offenses still gives me chills today. The visual of qbs looking across the line of scrimmage and seeing Singletary's vicious stare with his eyes looking through the qbs soul was very iconic. Blah Blah Blah all of that being said there is no fucking way Singletary should ever be the HC of the Chicago Bears.

Singletary is losing it. He once pulled his pants down during a tantrum when he was HC. He thinks Roquan is broken. He vetoed a trade for a high end QB (in fairness, Ben had that sexual thing going on).

He's been out of coaching for the longest time and he thinks he can pull a Ditka and call George and take over? Bitch, please.

Love Singletary, but the guy should enjoy retirement.

Exactly. Can feel the crazy coming off of him. Lol. Not sure if he ever figured out that not all players respond to the buddy Ryan treatment.

I’m guessing they wanted one of his linebackers, 2 firsts, and their QB.

Really though he’s kind of onto something with Smith because I’d definitely be asking these candidates what their plans for Roquan are.

Well, he put in the effort to learn, and he studied football.
I’d take him on as a linebacker or player development coach any day!! and pair him with some players who do respond to his approach rather than worry about who doesn’t.
Are you aware of the list of pro-bowl linebackers he coached and how long it is?

he took his pants off because gen x’ers lack of ability to feel shame bothered him, he had to demonstrate.

Love #50 and what he's done for the Bears. That said, this thing reminds me of when Sean Young wanted to be Catwoman in Tim Burton's movie, and burst into a Warner Brothers executive office uninvited wearing a full Catwoman costume, jumped over a couch and freaked out the executive and Michael Keaton who were meeting at the time. She didn't get the part.

I dont believe the 49ers brass gave Singletary the power to veto trades. Not for a second. There is no way they went through the process of making such a big move only to have Singletsry veto it. If Singletary had that sort of power they would have asked him how he felt before they started negotiating.

How do you think she got Ace Ventura?
