After having 100 points in Midget AAA while his brother was in his rookie season with the Chicago Blackhawks, David Toews went to college and had 26 points in 55 games over 2 season and was drafted by the Islanders while his brother was winning Olympic Gold and a Stanley Cup. He went to the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings and had 48 points in 60 games before being acquired by the Chicago Blackhawks, his brother's team. A stint in pre-season in which he played on the same line as his brother for a few shifts, and he was sent to the AAA Rockford IceHogs, he lasted 2 games and was sent to the AA Toledo Walleye despite only a -1 rating. A minus 13 with just 14 points in 42 games, Toledo (and presumably the Blackhawks?) let him go after the season. A -11 in 2012-13 with 2 goals and 4 assists in 26 games with the independent AA Bakersfield Condors, and he was acquired by the Idaho Steelheads, affiliated with the Dallas and Texas Stars, and has now had some success. In 27 games he has 8 goals and 12 assists, and a +7 rating. Probably too late to salvage an NHL career, but it is nice to see David finally settling in at the professional, albeit low at that, level.

what people dont understand is that the WORST nhl player on any given year is still one of the worlds best. i still skate with a nhl player who was horrible in the nhl and when he plays against us old friends its like watching the best art drawing being painted when you are scrimmaging...now imagine doing the same against a stamkos, datsyuk, hossa etc.

David Toews still has a chance. Is only 22 years old and was drafted in the 3rd round for a reason. Having the name "Toews" on the back of his jersey will also help him stay on the radar for people/teams.

Also, not that big of a deal but he played Prep at Shattuck, not midget AAA - similar but different. My prep team played against Shattuck the first year he got there, everyone was gunning for him with the Toews name, was a real solid player.

Nice to see him bouncing back, he still has a chance.

Wiki lists Stattuck-Saint Mary's as Midget AAA on both Jonathan and David's pages...

That's fine, but it isn't. Like I said, not a big deal. They are similar in competition in some ways (and many AAA and Prep Schools play eachother in tournaments or "practice" games), some now show up in the U18 rankings together, but very different in how they operate and in what leagues they play in. Most prep school players are dormers and they all go to the same school. AAA can have out of towners who stay with a family but it is more rare, and they all go to different schools. AAA can't have players over 18 (on a year basis) while Prep can have players up to 19 because of Post-Grad year players.

TSN lists it as Minnesota-Highschool which is probably more accurate.

I went to Prep School out east and played AAA my Midget Minor year...they are different.

Like I said, it was a minor point and not a big deal. I just think it is important to note because of how different they are. There is a big reason why a player like J.Toews/Crosby picked to go to a Prep School over a AAA team.

Once went for an open skate at the SW Ice Arena in Homewood/Flossmoor. There was a guy there wearing a Wolves practice jersey and authentic Atlanta Thrashers shorts during the skate, while the Wolves were the AHL affiliate of Atlanta.

Never got a name and couldn't tell you who it was even if you named him, but I couldn't believe some of the stuff he was doing on the ice. And, again, probably just an AHL guy.

That is extremely true. I live near a town with a semi-pro team and even those guys will skate circles around my buddies and I.
