Hopefully we can get either. And always some pitching. And then a good manager. And then some competitiveness and then we will have the much desired jewelry we have never seen in our lifetime!

We should get Beard Wilson instead of CJ Wilson.

Absolutely not. Starter >>>>> reliever, especially if he's left-handed and doesn't completely suck.

True. That's why we should have kept Lilly. He did pretty damn good for us.

I'd say yes, it does increase the chances. Ricketts wasn't cheap at all in his GM search which hopefully means he won't be cheap with the rest of the team. And I'm sure Theo Epstein wanted an idea of what he could spend before signing on dotted line and Theo's way will include big names.

Lies. The Cubs are bankrupt and won't spend any money on anything despite the fact that they just made Epstein one of the highest paid executives (can't confirm if that is in fact that highest, but it is more than Cashman is making which you figure would be the most) in baseball and spent the most on amateur players ever in team history.

To be fair, just because they're splurging on the GM and the amateur draft doesn't mean they can't cut back on payroll, but those are encouraging signs :)

Clearly they could but the argument has been the Cubs are going to cut payroll because they are in debt, and that seems to be the extent of the argument. It is certainly possible that the Cubs could spend signifcantly less than last year, but it is just funny how these examples keep popping up despite all the talk that Ricketts is overextended and has no money.

If they weren't gonna spend money, it would make more sense to bring in a guy who was used to not spending money. I've seen other people point out that Ricketts has said he wants to model the Cubs after the Red Sox and being afraid to spend is completely ass backwards from that formula. It doesn't have to be 160 mill like the Saux, but 125-130 is very realistic imo.
