He's a HR shy of his first 30-HR, 100-RBI season since 2005...And if Carlos Lee taught us anything, its that it's easier to trade a bloated contract the closer it gets to ending. Sori's had a really, really good season. He currently sits 3rd in the NL (I believe) in RBI. On this team. That's a feat in itself. We all poke fun at him from time-to-time, but the fact of the matter is he's had a really solid season.

So, do you all think he's gone before next season? at next season's trade deadline? what have you? A team that needs more offense could definitely use a bat like his. Of course, he has No-Trade rights, but you'd think he'd be okay with playing for the right contender.

I bet he's heavily shopped this offseason. There's about a 50-50 chance he stays a Cub past spring training. Some AL team is going to want him on the cheap.

I would think so too. But honestly, I'm not sure how cheap he's going to come. Clearly if the Cubs want anything in return for him they'll have to pitch in probably 1/2 his remaining contract at the absolute minimum...but 30 HR/100 RBI guys don't come on the market all the time, there's not a plethora of them available. And honestly, having a 30/100 guy on THIS team is damn impressive. I'd think a handful of AL teams would be interested, but his NTC will prove difficult.

NTC won't matter as much in the offseason since there's no real deadline. If the Cubs are willing to absorb nearly the entire contract it'll make things more palatable for the other team. The prospects coming back won't be earthshattering but they will probably be useful.

That's what I'm figuring, too. Funny thing is, a 30/100 season means he's worth probably 3/4 of his contract, which is about where we expected him to be at this point when he signed the contract. After the last cpl seasons, I don't know that anyone expected him to be there at this point. It'll be an interesting game of chess.

Fun story, if Boston wants to contend next season, I can see a possible fit, there. Not sure how much "rebuild" they plan on doing, tho.

Im sure most of the GMs know the condition of his knees, wrong side of his career, playing in the NL (assuming he would DH in the AL) There is no reason that any team will pay any portion of his salary or give a top spec back because of this year. Has he played good this year? yes. Are his knees gone? yes is he in regression? yes.

If they're dead-set on trading him he's gone this offseason as he's probably going to get plenty of warning as to where he gets to go, without having to decide right the **** now to go to SF or LA or whatever. Otherwise I could actually see him sticking around as a Cub for the life of his contract as he's not completely useless. I think any dreams of getting a superb prospect back are delusional.

Well the Cubs aren't just gunna give him away for nothing now. The Cubs will want to save as much money now and get a good prospect or 2 in return.

Most we can probably get is a few guys that are projects.. I don't see us adding anything of major value.. or even intermediate value.

They'd be projects with minor upside. If the only things coming back are worse than even projects-with-upside then the Cubs might as well keep Soriano around.
