CHICAGO -- The process to hire the Cubs' next manager is in full motion as team chairman of the board Tom Ricketts has begun his interviews with candidates that general manager Jim Hendry and assistant GM Randy Bush began setting up six weeks ago.
Former Cleveland Indians manager Eric Wedge was the latest to be interviewed, meeting with Ricketts on Monday, according to major league sources. Triple-A Iowa manager Ryne Sandberg and interim manager Mike Quade have already had their interviews with Ricketts within the last two weeks. Quade met with Ricketts before returning to his winter home in Florida after the Cubs season ended on Oct. 3.
Quade went 24-13 in his run as interim Cubs manager. That was the second-best record in the major leagues from Aug. 23 to the end of the season.
Sandberg, in his first year as Iowa manager, was the Pacific Coast League Manager of the Year, losing out on a chance to go to the playoffs when his team lost on the last day of the minor league season.
Wedge managed the Cleveland Indians from 2003-2009. He was the American League Manager of the Year in 2007.
At this point it's unknown if former Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin will meet with Ricketts. Melvin was said to still be a candidate for the Cubs job when the season ended.

Thoughts? I don't think it's a big deal and too big.
