Sources say Bill Cowher is open to a comeback

With my sources telling me Bill Cowher is open to returning to the nfl should the bears hire him as their DC since they have a vacancy?

Here's the thing, bears have to keep the cover 2 in place with eberflus as HC but cowher could surely adjust and work within that scheme.

Honestly I was hoping for Cowher a few years ago,. but he's been out of coaching for more than 15 years. My concerns would be a) how well he's kept up with the game and b) if he's lost some of the fire and ability to motivate men. Football needs a really good man-motivator.

Nah, he's been gone way too long.

It's crazy though... If he never retired and stuck with the Steelers, he may have had the second most wins in NFL history by now. He had 149 when he retired, and Tomlin has had 170 since then. Combine the 2, and that would be 319, which is one more than Halas and 9 less than Shula.

Yeah, Tomlin is a different coach... but remember, Cowher won a lot of games with dog shit at the QB position (Mike Tomczack? Tommy Maddox? Kordell Stewart?). Once he got Big Ben, he won a Super Bowl a couple of years later. Odds are, he would have been just as successful as Tomlin, given his previous track record.
