The White Sox, a runner-up in the Gonzalez sweepstakes, offered Gordon Beckham and prospects to the Padres, according to Nightengale (Twitter links). Nightengale reports that the Mariners were the other finalist for the slugging first baseman.

WOW!! Man I love beckham and glad we didnt make that deal! We could get pujols next year, once Buehrle and Jacksons off the books and if we dont sign Konerko. Which is what I'd do!! Wonder if Kenny would call STL to see if they'd do a Pujols deal. I know its a stretch but never say never with KW!
