In another step toward honoring their glory years, the Chicago White Sox will wear replicas of their 1983 uniforms for Sunday home games in 2013.
This marks the 30th anniversary of the Sox's ''Winning Ugly'' team that won the American League West title before losing to eventual World Series champion Baltimore in the AL Championship Series.
The 1983 home uniforms featured the word "SOX'' across the front of the jersey in white letters with a blue background and red trim around the letters and on the sleeves, with the player's jersey number also on the upper left pant leg.
The home caps feature the word ''SOX'' in blue letters across the front of the cap with a white background and blue coloring on the backside.
''We're honoring this team this year, and this merchandise has done very well,''said Brooks Boyer, the Sox's senior vice president of sales and marketing.
Last season, the Sox honored their 1972 team by wearing their uniforms for Sunday home games. Those uniforms featured red caps, red lettering and pinstripes with large numerals on the back of the jerseys.
Five members of the 1983 team - manager Tony La Russa, Harold Baines, Greg Luzinski, Ron Kittle and Tom Pacioreck - will attend SoxFest next weekend. Tickets remain available for the three-day event at the Palmer House Hilton.
