Well off-season is over.

Latest stuff is Nico is taking grounders but is lite tossing them back. So doubtful for Japan right now.

Assad with a oblique issue. No word on MRI yet. I see this as a blessing. It forces Brown into the rotation mix more vs a depth piece.

Bregman chatter is still there. The doubt is high here

Turner is being talked to. Turner's wife is from Indiana so both is highly interested with the Cubs.

My opinion is Turner. I don't like the depth behind Shaw and Busch right now. I also don't see a need for Canario in the OF. With Turner they can utilize Suzuki more in the OF giving Turner more PA.

So I see Turner of a high value piece plus his splits on OBA are equal. He is a hitter that put up a 117 wRC+ last year. I get having a better glove at 3B for situational. And I believe that they have that in house. But a pure bench vet hitter is a clear lacking.

I see this as Turner > Wisdom.

Interesting. Getting 1B reps for Canario. This would increase his value on the bench and save a few mil. Not against it.

Paul DeJong at 3B back up sounds pretty good right now

Bench
Kelly is a lock.
Leaves them 3 players.

1 should be able to back up Hoerner. Hoerner will be the back up SS.

DeJong gives some power to the IF in case Shaw gets hurt. Oblique early today might get Jed thinking a long the same lines. Then you want a OF that can play CF. Canario right now has the edge there.

If they went DeJong/Canha. Canha has played all over the diamond. That to me is a solid duo. Last spot TBH who every fills a need. Speed or glove is fine

Nats sign DeJong for 1M. Starting at 3B. Seems that his stint at KC proved that he went from a avg SS to a solid 3B with poor OBA and 20 HR power.

I love Canario at first. If he can do it, Busch can move to Second to spell Nico,, and I’m not positive, but doesn’t he play a little 3rd? In a pinch, Happ can also play 3rd.

I see Jed being forced to go in house first right now.

Canario as a OF is rather pointless. Suzuki is going to need some OF time this year. That really leaves a player that can handle CF. Canario has played CF also, but he is more of a corner OF which they do not need. Now RH 1B is a spot that he can get action at and keep him relevant. Seeing how he has no options and would be a DFA issue you need to figure it out and if he is not the answer then they need to shift to Turner.

TBH I would prefer Turner and Canha. One guy is a pro hitter that can take over 1B if needed. 2nd guy can move around depending on needs. You add Berti and you have a pretty well rounded bench that gives stability to a younger starting team.

I see trying out Canario at 1B as tinkering. They did that with Morel. Square peg in round hole stuff. That is something to test out in the minors. Like they did with Shaw. Let the process happen when games don't matter

So this whole thing should be avoided because you can not send Canario to Iowa to test it out

I like how the Cubs are slapping around LAD except it is not them. Bunch of scrubs in their uni's.
