technically he didnt because he did upgrade a weakness we had...

did he do as much as he should? it depends on the fan, but i think a forward would have been awesome to add

For me it remains to be seen - on the one hand you got (potentially) Oduya replacing Scott (or the temptation to dress Scott).

But Oduya, potentially is a rental; and as such -a rental really needs to be an impact player -I don't see how that can happen, not when the team has been in a massive rut offensively as well as defensively.

If the past 2 games, and the losing streak -should show that, this team is inconsistent in the offensive zone, worse than pathetic with the man advantage, and has defensive issues on top of that -- the last 2 games the team scored all of 1 goal.

With the injuries it has only underlined that this is a team that is very easy for opposing teams to match up with, and neuter whatever offensive threat there is.

What is the 2nd line on the Hawks? Hossa and 2 random guys. The first line is what? Sharp (banged up), and Kane plus a randomly inserted center?

So I suppose in the end, what you are looking at is throwing away a couple of draft picks on a rental which won't have much impact on the season ... should have saved them and used them on an actual trade after the CBA is settled -if that is what the issue was.

Just my 2 cents.

I don't necessarily disagree with the article on this year's trading deadline. I look at last summer to this year's trade deadline in order to conclude failure. What talent has Bowman added? Motador = failure Brunette = Failure Resigning Frolik for 3 years @ 2.3 mil = major failure O'Donnell, Carcillo = meh Granted, Mayers was a nice signing but what does it say when your best acquisition is a 4th line, checking center? And he traded away Campbell for a stiff and didn't do anything with the cap space!

What has Bowman done well for the Hawks?

Nicely written article! I agree with some of what you wrote, but I feel we could have gotten a #2 center in free agency. Talbot 1.75 cap hit over 5 years! Even Arnott or Oshie were affordable and probably Oshie we could have signed for longer than the Blues 1 year!

Talbot and Arnott are NOT #2 centers

We didn't significantly upgrade our defense.

We are still relying on two goalies who have proven they can let in 50 foot half-screened wobblers like they're Messier missiles.

We haven't had a second line center all fricking year and if we play Sharp there our scoring punch from the 2 line disappears.

We had 6.9 under the cap and could have, and should have, gotten a top 4 or 5 type defenseman and a second line center or sniper (if we wanted to let Sharp center the 2), and all told we did exactly nothing.

I give Bowman a solid F this year. It'd be an F- (if that's possible) but Mayers has been passable. I'm not giving him credit for the emergence of Hayes and Olsen. If I did I could e talked into giving him a D-.

I agree that Sharp can center the 2 but he's a sniper on the wing with 45 goal potential and I'd rather see him out on the edge with a true distributor in the middle.

Very well said.

The only problem is if you don't put Sharp at #2 center what do you have? Kruger isn't the answer. The more I think about it, this team is a mess. If you put Kane and Toews together (if he comes back), they are going to get killed out there. At the minimum, Bowman needed to get some muscle that could play with those two guys. Maybe Q keeps changing it up so much because there is no good solution.
