This team has gotten it's speed back. He's gone the way of rebuilding through the draft and internally, rather than trading away talent for stopgap fixes. This team is moving towards having the speed of the 2010 - and not having the salary cap problems created last time. This team may very well have the ability to stay together for more years...and if/when someone gets too expensive - there will be some talent coming up - Teuvo, McNeil, Daneault, Clendening, KHayes, Olsen..(Lalonde, Beach...for STU)

With others - Shalunov, JHayes, Rensfeldt, Morin, Johns, Smith, Pirri.....

Going into 2013-2014...assuming Olesz is bought out...Montador retired w/concussion or bought out...this team will be able to be together for a few more years without the massive turnover of roster they've had to go through.

They'll have just under 10mil with 16 players under contract.

Need to resign - Kruger, Leddy - as RFA's

Stalberg, Rosival (who's looking good w/Leddy) and Bickell as UFA's

FORWARDS

Brandon Saad ($0.894m) / Jonathan Toews ($6.300m) / Marian Hossa ($5.275m)

Patrick Sharp ($5.900m) / Dave Bolland ($3.375m) / Patrick Kane ($6.300m)

Daniel Carcillo ($0.825m) / Andrew Shaw ($0.565m) / Michael Frolik ($2.333m)

Brandon Bollig ($0.575m) /

DEFENSEMEN

Brent Seabrook ($5.800m) / Duncan Keith ($5.538m)

Niklas Hjalmarsson ($3.500m) / Johnny Oduya ($3.383m)

Sheldon Brookbank ($1.250m)

GOALTENDERS

Corey Crawford ($2.667m)

------

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $54,398,462; BONUSES: $82,500

CAP SPACE (16-man roster): $9,984,038

The team is structured to be able to continue to move forward and develop/rely on the players within the organization. If there's players they don't think they can resign (Stalberg, Bickell)...they will be able to move them for picks while having talent in the minors they can begin to move up to fill the role, while identifying the key core.

While I am as excited as you are, lets pump the brakes a little. I'll have to make judgements with a much bigger sample size than 3 games.

Although this team has looked great in every zone, PK, PP and ES. This road trip will be the biggest blessing in disguise, nothing like 8 on the road for a winning team to bring a group of guys together.

Not to mention that after the road trip, we have 22 of the last 36 at home. I like that. I like that a lot!

I'm sure if they were 0-3...the lynch mob would be in full force

The injuries are a comin' and the worn out bodies are to follow. How we handle that will be the big truth.

Last year this team looked pretty good out of the gate too. 9-2-2 in their first 13 games last year. I'd take that record this year to start... their problems came later in the year.

There is a solid foundation built for the future, but I think that will always be a given as long as Stan keeps the core intact. At some point he'll need to trade some of the talent in the system for some immediate help: Saad, Shaw, Kruger, Teravainen, McNeill, Danault, Pirri, Morin, Smith, K. Hayes, J. Hayes, Beach, Leddy, Clendening, Johns, Olsen, Lalonde, Dahlbeck, etc.. etc.. can't all make the team (4 of them already on the team this year) unless they turn over half the roster within the next couple years. It's time to identify who has a future in the organization and who can go without suffering much consequence (maybe this off-season or next).

Having played 3 pretty physical teams already I thought maybe an injury or two would occur but the Hawks just seem fast this year. If they just stay with the speed as they should because they suck when they try to be physical and rack up stupid penalties I think they will be great. They wore STL out last night after the first by letting them be physical yet not veering from their game. STL changed their game and if the Hawks can continue to make teams play to their system much like 2010 I see silver at the end of the tunnel. I think playing a fast puck control game now in the beginning will keep them from injury.

AND ????? No that is just the beauty of this team right now and they are going to have to take a real hard look at what's to come. Carcillo did not play bad and Q seems content to keep him on the top line but Saad is raising a whole lot of questions as to should he be put back there. I know it's early and he is playing with 2 world class athletes but he looks damn good there. If another player does get hurt and I hope that does not happen I wouldn't be waiting with baited breath to see if another young'en could step in and impress us more.

I was just reminding you because you said you were expecting one or two injuries by now... I could have said bollig too but that was fight related and he'll probably be back next game so I didn't.
