Barring no injuries, do you think the Hawks will run away with the Cup?

No one runs away with the Cup.

However, I do find it hard to believe that any team could beat this team in a 7 game series based on how they are playing as of now.

I would say so. With the changes expected to occur over the offseason it would be a shame if this core went out any other way

They've got 4 legit lines again.

If that trend continues, they won't lose.

There is no running away with the Cup. Not in the NHL and especially not when you have to go through the West. Sure, the Blackhawks are a favorite right now but there are plenty of teams, hot goalies, bounces, missed calls, etc that can stand in their way come postseason. The NHL Playoffs are a different beast and getting 16 wins to hoist the Cup is pretty damn hard. There are no guarantees...simply enjoy the ride and hope for the best. They have a very good shot if the season ended today...but plenty of time to go for things to change. Blackhawks were a favorite last year and fans were cocky as can be after round 1...but then the NHL Playoffs roared its ugly head and the Blackhawks fell short just like 28 other teams in the league.

Last season, arguably, the two best teams in the league were the Hawks and the Kings. In the regular season there were 6 teams that had more points than the Hawks and 8 teams with more than LA. You make the tournament and go from there....other than that the regular season doesn't really mean much.

Yeah as far as I'm concerned the Hawks were a goal away from winning back to back Cups. Don't see the East being much more of a threat this year either, especially with the idiotic moves the Bruins have made over the last two years.

Hawks were so close to possibly going for the 3 peat this year. That would have been insane.

anything short of a championship is failure. there are a lot of variables that go into winning the cup, the list is too long. HW summed it up though.

the playoffs are a whole different animal. lets just hope for the team to go in 100% healthy.

No one runs away with the cup--as has been mentioned numerous times.

That being said, with the purge happening in the offseason this summer, that attitude from everyone better be cup or bust.

The hawks were the best team in the playoffs last year and they are the best team in the league this year. We fixed our flaw which was no showing in the 3rd period. Now that we play 60 minutes I don't think we can be beaten in a 7 game series

Perhaps a bit of an overstatement, but I figure with a 71M cap, one or 2 key contracts, regardless of the ability and worth of the player in said contract, will have to go and a few players won't be resigned. It might force enough of a step backwards in the club in 2016.

But you likley know more of the inner workings than I do--I just don't see the exact same group together next year.

Not the past 2 games they didn't. I've taken U-blocking dumps that looked better than the 'hawks in the 1st period in the past couple of games. being the goddamned ray of sunshine that I am, I'd like to think they've been an anomaly rather than a trend--we'll see come tonight.

Well, I mean, we have won every Stanley Cup since 1967, so if we lose just this one, we don't need to burn the city down or anything.

EDIT: Apparently I may have been slightly misinformed.

Last I checked, Chicago is not Vancouver.

I think the "purge" is taken out of context. The BOG has already come out and publicly stated the Cap should be between 73-75 mil. They would not have done that coming out of that meeting if that was not going to be the case.

That said the Hawks have 4 contracts that could be expendable and those equal about 15 million in Cap Space. Most would say they could probably lose at least two of those. So if losing two contracts, allowing guys like TT, Mcneil ect a shot are a Purge then maybe they are correct.

My definition of a purge is 2010 when 11 players from the SC winning team were gone.

Sharp -5.9 mil
Bickell - 4 mil
Oduya -- 3.4 mil
Rozival -- 2.2
