Anyone ever done Stem cell banking for their pet?
If you recall (or care), I rescued a dog this winter that had a horribly broken leg and got him all patched up. He was right around a year old, and has some pretty serious hardware in his leg.
Having been through knee rebuilds on a couple of my old dogs, I am aware there may be arthritis or other issues down the road as a result.
Since he wasnt neutered when I got him, I waited till he was healed up on the leg and then got it done.
Beforehand, I got the lifetime stem cell banking kit from Gallant.
Right around a grand- they coordinate with your vet on the surgery date and send them a collection kit.
Surgery gets done, sample collected and stored in the cold collection unit complete with monitoring devices, and a courier is waiting to take them to the airport- off they go to the lab in San Diego.
Once there, they ensure the viability, isolate the stem cells and store them in liquid nitrogen and are preserved for any future need.
when needed, they are cultivated for as many uses as you would need and shipped out to the vet for the therapy.
they updated me on every step- when they arrived they let me know the shipping temp and time were well within safe range, and they let me know they were viable and able to be cultivated, then again when they were safely put in long term storage.
Should the temps ever raise or the sample be compromised in any way, I would be auto-notified.
Pretty cool shit, I cant wait to see how it plays out.
