Oh boy.... where do I start on this one.

The Miami Heat's 14 game winning streak is apparently more impressive than the Hawks point streak.

If only there were ties in basketball.

I actually saw this live this morning and couldn't believe my ears.

So now not only is he an idiot with terrible basketball thoughts, he also needs to get his ass kicked by Barry Melrose's mullet.

Another dumb ****.... No surprise he works at BSPN. I refuse to give them my ratings and never will.

For the record, I don't give a shit what he is saying and ESPN sucks as always. THis rant is just hilariously bad, you just have to sit there in awe.

Im with RK here.... This man doesn't know the skill, pain, and agony the sport of hockey brings. Basketball doesn't require padding, nor does it require much talent.

shh dont tell him the ties are actually shootout losses. someone as dumb as him might think a loss in a shootout should be a real loss.

Someone needs to remind him that the NHL hasn't had a tie in almost 10 years.

**** his condescending speech about a sport much tougher then basketball. A sport more team oriented then basketball. A game more fluid and faster then a stop every five seconds game of basketball.

However, I agree with him in some respects. Mainly the points. I agree that teams should (and I 100% agree that they do) hit the ice wanting the win. However the sport, since the NHL has been around, has had ties. Like it or not, that's the way it is. You can have virtually unlimited basketball OT's but not in hockey. One of the great things about playoff hockey is full, commercial free hockey. Guys giving everything just to get the win. And he really showed how uninformed he is about hockey and the NHL. He, dupa, there hasn't been a tie in the NHL in pert near 8 years. Also, yes, there is a team in Columbus. Maybe if you, a SPORTSCASTER, would report on, oh I dunno, sports, you would know about the 30 teams that comprise the NHL. Maybe if your terrible "sports" network did what it was sposeda do, then maybe you would know.

I agree though....get rid of the loser point. I've heard people say make it 3 points. I say no, make it 2 for a win, 0 for a loss.

someone said it best.."espn is the fox news of the sports world as it doesn't endorse what it doesn't have broadcast rights to and doesn't try to understand the sports its not making money off of"

pretty much sums it up.

What an ass. Just man up and say "I don't know shit about hockey so I really cant compare them" instead of launching into this rant about ties. 14 game winning streak is pretty god damn good (New England Patriots had a 18 game winning streak, just saying) but still 21 or 22 games into the season without a regulation lose is incredible too

He failed to realize the Hawks also have a 9 game winning streak going right now to go along with the "tie streak" as he sees it.

For someone who didnt know Columbus had a team, he shows his lack of knowledge of hockey, therefore, losing credibility on deciding which streak is more impressive.

I think a lot of people dont realize this either. They tied their franchise record for a win streak yesterday and I don't think anybody noticed....

People do notice but when outsiders see our great game decided by a puck shooting contest it gives it the taste of pro wrestling.

Not trying to defend the brother but that statement was sarcasm as saying hockey doesn't matter....you can't put vocal sound into purple.

Now let's be adults here; if the Heat lose their next game in overtime, they will still have a streak of 15 games of not losing in regulation and Steven is saying the losses take some of the steam off of the hoopla and was only stating that a 14 game winning streak is better than a 22 game streak of not losing in regulation but still have losses and I know damn well you all know that if the Hawks 22 game streaks were all wins, it would be better than the current streak they have now.

Where I do not agree with Steven is when he tries to bash the sport as a whole but I respect his opinion on what streak he feels is more impressive.

The LA Lakers 33 game winning streak is more impressive than both of the current streaks that are going on now whether you like basketball or not.

I think it's a pretty damn good debate when you think about it but of course I think the Hawks streak is better than the Heats 14 game unbeaten streak because I'm a Hawks fan and can't stand the Heat.

Bottom line; yes, Steven is a blithering idiot but not for this one.

Watched this today too. Nothing to get worked up aboot, he knows his NBA, but poking his nose in other stuff this guy has always been a moron.

You have to fully realize that they both must take HARSH sides either way, it is the same for all those shows on ESPN, shit its even the same on CNN, MSNBC, FOXNEWS. That is what usually causes the comments that just infuriate one side. Happens every show, everyday. Just typical ESPN.

The real issue is the whole thing is an apples to oranges discussion. Basketball has what an average of 80-90 points per game. hockey has 3. The bigger the numbers the harder it is to tie, so they really dont compare at all.

Barry Melrose should come out and talk aboot how the Heat play in an inferior conference so the streak doesn't mean as much if it was a team in the west playing teams with a better winning percentage.

Besides you point, they don't compare because we are not comparing win streaks. The Hawks' win streak is 9 and the Heats' win streak is 15. 15 is more impressive than 9.

What is comparable is unbeaten in regulation, the Hawks' unbeaten streak in regulation 22, the Heats unbeaten streak in regulation 15. 22 is more impressive than 15.

There's merit to both sides of the argument and Steven is an idiot because he Steven, Steven isn't an idiot because he thinks the Heats' streak is more impressive....period.

Stephen A Smith is an idiot for many, MANY reasons. Not just for his moronic statements about hockey.
