It seems like there are shows for all kinds of odd behavior on TV and I am drawn to them like a moth to a flame. I think it is because I like to know what makes people the way they are. In the past year I have found myself watching, Hoarders, Hoarding, Freaky Eaters, Strange Sex, The OCD Project, Sister Wives, Animal Hoarding, Celebrity Rehab, Sober House, Sex Rehab, The Little Couple and Toddlers and Tiaras. Now there is a new one called My Strange Addiction. It has me intrigued because of some of the weird addictions these people have like eating toilet paper and sleeping with their blow dryer, eating cleanser, and sucking their thumb (an adult). Maybe I like them cause they make me feel normal if there is such a thing. One thing for sure, they can be really interesting.

Anybody else watch this stuff or have a strange behavior they want to share?

TSD if you see this, the Strange Sex episode called Cougars and Cubs is on TLC tonight. It is about a 70 something old lady and her early 30s stud muffin.

Alright bri, because of this thread more shows have been added to my DVR

I started watching My Strange Addiction. Maybe I'm old-fashioned or maybe I'm just insensitive but some people just need a big fucking dose of reality. The episodes I watched involved eating powder house cleaner....wtf are you fucking Special person, go eat some paste instead and learn some self-control. One involved a 20 year that was addicted to tanning. Shame too, she was pretty before she became the color of my luggage, also darling your eye makeup sucks and makes you look Special person but whatever she was the closest thing to normal. Then there was the chick that talked through her ventriloquism dumbies. You are just weird okay, you are just fucking batshit crazy okay? And the cat lady....**** it every neighborhood needs a crazy cat lady.

I watched one episode of strange sex, interesting enough show.

Now Oddities is really a show that is... bizarre some of the customers and stuff are just weird, interesting show but also seems like 30 minutes of social dysfunction but nonetheless very interesting.

Another one I started watching recently is Hardcore Pawn on Tru TV. that show is the poster child for the TSD project. Customers coming in there and saying they can say whatever they want because of the first amendment but not realizing that shops have the right to tell anyone for any reason to get out.....fucking classic.

You do realize that an addiction is by definition an abnormal dependency on something... it has little to do with "self-control." For whatever reason, the brain gets wired into needing to perform those actions. Simply not doing said action it is often not an option for those who suffer from the addiction.

Making fun of someone's mental illness is in really poor taste, man.

Mistress Daisy is a Dominatrix in Chicago and her business is down. She loves to torture and dominate men. Maybe some of you guys could help her out. (As seen on True Life on MTV) Come on guys. She's living out of her car.

There is also a guy that likes to put women's feet in his mouth. He loves the smell and the taste, but sadly he lives in Maryland. At least it's not the Jet's coach.

There are certain things I buy and some I don't. Maybe I'm just a caveman and I'm okay with that. To me (I don't have science to back me up and this is one of those cases I don't care either) addiction is weak willpower.

You realize just how full of condescension this statement is, right? This is extremely close-minded thinking and exactly the kind of thing that does a disservice to the mental illness community... which already suffers ignorant stigmas like this.

I suppose Trev's OCD was just him being weak, too?

Those shows are to depressing for me. Is it sad because you want your feet in his mouth but he's to far away? And as for Mistress Daisy, I've never seen her but surely someone will rescue her so she may practice her craft on them.

No i just have problems with buying the addiction argument and the ADD argument. It seems every new person I meet has ADD nowadays. Let's might as well give the full list. Alcoholism, Anorexia and Bulimia are not diseases they are just "you're a dumbass"

As far as ADD goes, and most other problems, I think it is for sure over diagnosed.

I don't think they are diseases either, but if you think for one second these folks have any control over eating disorders or OCD or anything, you, sir, are the dumbass.

OCD is a real problem. I have no issues with OCD. But the eating disorders, just don't buy it. Are they problems? Sure, but I don't think it is a disease or something like that, nope. If I'm a dumbass **** it I'm a dumbass, been called worse.

Now I admit to not being fully aware of the context and I understand that but I seen a clip for one of these shows and the girl was anorexic and she said "I'd rather die skinny, than live and be fat"

I'm sorry I'm going to mean, unsympathetic, whatever, but that is just fucking stupid. So you'd rather let Anorexia kill you since the alternative is probably adding about 10-15lbs (since that was my guess to about how underweight she was) and being healthy.

Look I'm fat. I weigh 281 and my ideal weight is 180, I'm 100lbs overweight. I don't have a disease, I like food, a lot. If I really deep down wanted to get my weight down I would do something about but truth be told as much as I want to lose weight, I'm too fucking lazy to really go after it and I lack the willpower to do it.

Hun, you missed the boat. She had to move to Atlanta. But on a brighter note, Jove can still take advantage of her services.

Anorexia and Bulimia are both classified psychological disorders under the DSM-IV just like OCD.

Book, logically I know I am wrong but a part of me just doesn't care. I think it is bull. Maybe I've just heard it as an excuse too many times or something.

Hun, you are way too hard on people. You seem to expect perfection out of everyone at least your idea of perfection. People feel and react to things differently. Keep an open mind.

Last night the strange addictions were eating couch cushions and running around in furry animal suits.
