What are you supposed to do with grits? Syrup, chili, salt and pepper?

Grits (or polenta) are usually a complement to w/e you're eating.... I think of them like potatoes... hashbrowns with breakfast.... baked potato with dinner.... how I season the potato depends on preference and what I'm eating it with.

I think the same goes for grits.... it depends on what you're pairing it with.

You can go pretty much any direction with them. There really isn't a wrong answer.

I like the simple: salt pepper and butter. With eggs it's really good.

But you can do salsa, jelly, syrup, hot sauce, basically whatever you want to try.

Yeah, cheese. Shrimp on top, I've had pork belly with a garlic balsamic reduction on top. Always savory, why am I seeing syrup, are you maniacs putting maple syrup on your grits?

For polenta let it solidify in the fridge then cut into pieces and deep fry, crisp outside, creamy inside, obviously much cheese.

So I spell polenta correctly, firefox says I spelled it wrong and suggested I go with tadpole, thanks firefox, I'm going to deep fry my tadpoles.

I've mixed them in with oatmeal.

that is just as frightening and wrong as your avatar!

For me, Oatmeal = sweet and Grits = savory.




I almost tried a ladle of grits over my eggs last night, but I couldnt wait for them to be done. downed the grits while waiting for the eggs.

I have honestly never heard of that- was it plain or flavored oatmeal?
