That is beautiful. How is the humidity there? We've never been. We enjoyed a honeymoon in Jamaica and a couple of trips to S. Florida, but it was misery.
When we went to Maui a couple summers ago, it was very humid for the week we were there, but then we hopped over to Kauai for another week, and it was not humid at all. We went to the Big Island this past winter, and no humidity at all.
I love Maui, but it's becoming a little too commercialized for me, but it's a great place to start if you've never been to Hawaii. Kauai is beautiful, but the whole island shuts down at like 9pm, which is not necessarily a bad thing. But I can see how you can get "island fever" on Kauai. I think the Big Island is a perfect mix of island paradise, combined with some of the luxuries of home. A colleague's husband is a native Hawaiian, and he said that whenever he wants to feel like he's really in Hawaii, he goes to the Big Island. I just love the variety of the terrain/scenery there. When you first land, it looks like you're on the moon with all the volcanic rock. As you circle around the island, it turns into farmland, then tropical jungle, then volcano, then coffee country, then beach/resorts. Supposedly, it also has the clearest waters of the Hawaiian islands and awesome snorkeling. I think it may be my favorite island, although I haven't been to Lanai yet, and it's been over 20 years since I've been to Oahu.
