I sure as hell hope nobody is wasting valuable currency on this team. If so, your contribution only serves to encourage a continual inferior product on the field.

This team sucks shit, and so does Hendry.

I only pay to see teams I want to see  Which is why I paid to see the Phillies play at Wrigley. Every other game this year, I've gotten in for either dirt cheap ($1!!!) or free.

Unfortunately, the dumb tourists will always be willing to waste $$. Although never a Yankee fan, at least Steinbrenner gives paying fans a return on their investment.

This is the attitude that will help make the Cubs a winner, imho.

I think the Ricketts need to de-focus from trying to cram butts in seats and just build a winner. Winner = butts in seats. It's not that hard to understand, unless of course you're in Tampa Bay where it's extremely inconvenient for fans to go to the park it seems.

White Sox fans seem to get it, their attendance figures are a good barometer as to how the team is doing. Tampa isn't the only city in Florida w/that problem, it's statewide b/c most residents didn't grow up there...and most of the ones who did move away...very transitional=very few loyal fan bases.

I threw out all my Cubs gear during a drunken rage after game 2 of the Dodger series in 08'...that was the last year I expected anything.

This team reminds me of the 70's clubs I grew up watching(for 5 bucks I might add)...bad fundamentals. You can small ball a team like the Cubs all day long b/c opposing managers know there's a good chance of them self-destructing on D.

Get what? I understand boycotting an owner that isn't investing in the product, but the Cubs, even after cutting payroll, are one of only 4 teams in major league baseball with a payroll over 130 million. They have dished out 2.6 million in signing bonuses to 2 Latin American prospects where they've never spent a million on a single prospect before.

Money does not equal success, but what more can an owner do then give the financial resources necessary to build a winner. Ricketts has done that so far no matter what anyone else wants to tell you. If the payroll continues to drop and you see less spending on getting and developing prospects, then I understand not supporting this team financially.

I also understand being frustrated with the man that has put together this team. I understand not wanting to pay money to go watch this team, but don't begrudge other fans that do want to go see a baseball game at a historic ballpark.

The issue isn't the $$, but rather how it's been distributed...or in this case wasted on overpaying for average talent. Hendry's track record sucks, yet he remains employed in hopes he will somehow magically not repeat the same mistakes...*coughs* Garza. Most WS fans let management know when they've had enough by not showing up, not the case w/Cub fans. They keep coming back 4/more crummy baseball. If you want to pay those outrageously high ticket prices to watch minor league ball, suit yourself. I can pay less than 10 bucks to watch the A's farm club here in Kane Co., and probably see better fundamentals.

If the issue isn't the money then why does it matter what fans spend their money on. I fully give you that Hendry hasn't built a winning team and should be gone. That said what do you want Ricketts to do right now. The guys that most of us would want can't even interview with us right now (Hahn, Friedman, etc.). So it is another crappy year of watching prospects develop, but at least this time we have prospects worth watching (*cough*Starlin Castro*cough*). Again I just don't see the connection between fans not showing up and winning. If Hendry is brought back next year and there are less financial resources available to him in all areas, then I see the possibility of fans not showing up having an effect. Right now it just seems pointless really because there is nothing Ricketts can do right now to fix this season or put this team in a better position for next year.

And actually attendance has dipped pretty significantly at Wrigley this year. We still are something like 4th or 5th in the NL but that is mostly because attendance is down throughout baseball.

Reduced attendance is a direct reflection of many families forced to tighten entertainment budgets. The problem I have is the same as it was last year at this time, nothing was done last Winter when it should have. This is year number 2 that feels like we're being spoon fed this "we're in a holding pattern" nonsense. I realize the plan is to rid the albatross contracts first, but if the idea was to use Quade as a one year stop gap and then can him along w/Hendry I don't see why Hendry was even retained....and then allowed to trade a prospect for a washed up BP guy from AZ.

Just doesn't add up.
