Just don't half-ass the suspension, and you'll be fine.

Measure twice, and cut once, BB, the rest is gravy. Or saucy, whichever you prefer.

Here, BB. It's fairly easy, I think you'd get more from watching a video than people explaining it in text.

My friend Guido just put in some drop ceilings in his basement a year ago. He's the one that made me feel stupid for calling sauce gravy...

Well, Guido DOES own an AUTHENTIC Italian restaurant called Buono Beef, so he must know

Does he drive a Camaro, and wear a black leather jacket too?

BTW..It musnt be too hard making you feel stupid..I bet you feel stupid every morning when you look in the mirror and see that ridiculous, passe hair-dont ya got...lol

Installing a suspended ceiling is pretty straight forward. The video posted here does a good job giving you step by step instructions. IMO the two most important factors are your initial layout and the tiles you buy. If the room is square or a rectangle the layout is pretty easy. The center point will either be the center of a tile or center of the rail. Just sketch out your ceiling grid on paper using your room dimensions and whichever center options give you the largest tiles along the outside. Sometimes this will cost you a little more in tiles but it looks a lot nicer with larger tiles around the outside than small strips. If your room is L shaped, angled or just irregular it is a must to lay it out first. Drawing it up on CAD is the easiest option but if you don't have that option you can draw a grid on Vellum paper and draw your room to scale on plain white paper. Put the Vellum grid over your room and move it around until you get maximum width around all walls. Sometimes there is no way to avoid having a small strip but you want to put this in the least visible area if possible.

Before you draw your scaled room or grid go to OfficeMax and buy a drafters scale. Probably around $10. Depending on the size of your room you should be able to draw it to scale using either the 1/4=12" or 1/8"=12" side of the ruler. Draw your room and ceiling grid using the same scaling. You should then have a fairly accurate representation of your room and ceiling grid. Place the grid over your room sketch and move it around until you have it centered with maximum tile width along the outsides. You want to keep the width of the outside tiles on opposing walls equal when possible. If your room is square or a rectangle just find the center of the room and decide if that point will be the center of the tile or the center of the rail depending on which option gives you more tile width on the outsides.

You usually get what you pay for when it comes to ceiling tiles. The cheap foam tiles offer nothing more than looks. Usually the more coarse the face of the tile is the more noise it will absorb. There are also inserts you can buy that lay on top of the ceiling tile that absorb noise and reduce the sound transferred between floors.
