Nick Friedell stole my thunder a little bit, and decided to analyze the Bulls roster player by player. Now I feel guilty doing the same thing. Maybe he's waiting for media day so he can pull two weeks...

Overrated by Bulls fans.

I'm sure he's overrated by some Bulls fans...but I don't think he's grossly overrated at all. He's a solid backup PF, and good option off the bench. He's got some touch on his jumper, and plays good defense. He runs the floor well, and does what he's asked to do on the Offensive side of the ball. He'll never be a consistent starter in the NBA, but will be the type of player that every team would love to have on their bench.

He's a decent player. To me his ceiling is Horace Grant..He has the potential to be a player like Grant. Thats just my opinion though.

i'm just glad we have him for the next 3 years making a million bucks. If he continues to play at this level, i'd argue he's worth the full mle.

Underrated as a player, but severely overrated by resident Bulls fans.

I've seen more than a few 'Don't trade Taj for x player' too many times on these boards.

he isnt over- or underrated, the (national) media gave him his dues as much as he deserved especially for a rookie that played as good as he did last season.

however im all the way in socal, i cant say whether or not bulls fans overrate the guy. but imo its hard to call a player generally overrated when his primary fan base are the only ones overrating him. as a bulls player, it only makes sense that bulls fans would love the guy right

If Taj is Horace Grant...that would exceed my expectations of him by quite a bit. I think he is more of a Joe Smith type of player. When I first saw him in the preseason last year he reminded me of Smith. Smith has made a decent career out of being where he is supposed to be on the floor and was an excellent complement to superstar frontcourt players. Though he was a bust, he has had a decent 15 year career because of being a smart player who is well liked. I really think that is the most likely career for Taj, but I would love to see him have a Horace Grant type career.

The jumpshot is there and should improve, the defensive instincts are strong enough that maybe Horace is not out of the question. Gibson would have to improve his ability to defend in the post and bulk up a bit, Grant may have been the best defensive power forward in the league during his prime so...that is reason for optimism...guarded optimism. Grant's game and Smith's intangibles would be great from Taj, absolutely great.

yeah i'm not sure why nick believed that. isn't he the beat writer for espn? i guess it's because of taj's weight. I SINCERELY HOPE HE"S NOT PRIVY TO INFORMATION ABOUT HOW TT PLANS TO USE TAJ.

if anything taj needs to get in the gym, so he can play back up center.

If Taj can correct his feet, he can play and guard the SF. That's the main variable. He has shown the drive to compete, and learns quick.

dribbling, shooting, passing, hands, also count. he is severely lacking in all those categories.

also taj doesn't have great instincts for a perimter defender. he's going to foul jump shooters often.

When his feet weren't bothering him, he was guarding perimeter players exceptionally well for a rookie forward. I'm not advocating for him to be a SF, but in a pinch and with good feet, I think he's capable.
