When it comes to the eighties...I am always the Heads above all, but this one was rough.

Talking Heads barely edges out Peter Gabriel who barely edges out Devo.

I wanted to say Genesis in the OP, but the pre and post Gabriel product is so different that I just went with Gabriel as a solo artist. I will allow votes for Genesis all the same.

Talking Heads were great but the best 80s band in terms of groovy movie soundtrack gems was Oingo Boingo

Peter Gabriel. His album So captured the feel of the 80's like none other.

Danny Elfman is a talented man.

Put together the playlist for my wedding myself. Included was 'Dead Man's Party' and 'Just Another Day.'

Gabriel, Byrne, and Eno all had a strong influence on future music production. Devo too. Comparing Gabriel and The Heads though is impossible for me.

Fear of Music, Remain in Light, PG 3, and Security were the apex, in my mind.

I prefer Devo, but understand the Talking Heads love. Personally don't think Gabriel belongs in the discussion.

Depends on the discussion. When I think back on the eighties...three songs defined rock music of the decade for me.....

Devo - Whip It

Talking Heads - Once in a Lifetime

Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer

Hence the OP.

IMO Gabriel belongs in a different genre than Devo or Talking Heads.
