My favorite teams
One team is the most important to the MLB Historically. This team was the first dynasty in MLB (not counting the NA, separate entity before the NL). This team essentially created the MLB. This team's owner created the AAGPBL (women's). This team's captain created the color barrier (only negative from this). This team is the Chicago Cubs.
1870: Chicago White Stockings founded, win the 2nd pennant in professional baseball history.
1871: Joined the new professional-only National Association.
1872-1873: Did not play due to having no venue after the Great Chicago Fire.
1876: Essentially created the National League (our owner called for the meetings and set up the new league). National Association folded before season.
1880-1882: Won 3 Straight Pennants, tied the first ever championship series between the champions of two major leagues in 1882.
1885-1886: Won 2 consecutive pennants after their star player returned from his retirement during which he tried to play pool professionally. (Won three in a row, missed two years, won two in a row, almost like the Bulls if they had also won in 1887).
1890: Merge with PL Chicago Pirates after season.
Sometime in the 80's or 90's: White Stockings (Cubs) Captain Cap Anson causes color barrier to be instated.
1900: Allowed the minor league St. Paul Saints of the new American League (Western League from 1894-1899) into Chicago as the White Stockings so long as they didn't use Chicago in their name.
1901: AL became Major, so they essentially allowed a rival team to join a major league the year prior.
1906: Best team in MLB history. Lost to the White Sox in World Series.
1907-1908: Won World Series twice.
1915: Merge with FL Chicago Whales after season, move into the Whales' home field, now known as Wrigley Field.
1943: Owner founds All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
2011: Get Theo Epstein.
That a pretty odd history. Hard to imagine that had we not been founded, the MLB wouldn't exist in its current form (probably would in some form, but still!).
